I purchased the radiator last summer. I bought the A77A. It did come with a set of cushions. Those were exactly the same as the stock cushions. I used my old cushions and your new cushions to get enough pieces to fit around the square corners of the Al radiator. I glued them on with weatherstrip...
I installed a Dewitt's aluminum radiator on my '82. It was a little narrower so the bottom edges barely fit in the lower shroud mounts. The corners of the radiator are square instead of rounded like the stock unit. I had to modify the rubber mounts so they fit the square corners of the Al...
I've been following your transmission threads. You replaced a clip on the internal linkage, which indicates you have the original trans or an early version. The correct filter may be hard to get for that model due to its age.
There are several different filters for the 700R. If your trans is...
I use an Auto X-Ray 6000. It will give you all kinds of data.
If you have modified your engine or removed the smog equipment or have a malfunction with the smog equipment, it may cause a rich condition. Check the O2 sensor as that is one of the main components that affect the mixture. The Auto...
The Corvette 700R4 is 7/8" shorter than the standard version of this transmission. The output shaft is 1 1/8" shorter. The tail housing is easy to replace, the output shaft is not. You have to disassemble most of the transmission to get at the snap ring that holds the shaft in. Just to get the...
It is a fairly easy job to replace the oil pan gasket. Just do what Hib said. I used a one piece gasket as a replacement, torqued all the bolts carefully and have not had a leak.
The diaphragms in your horns could be rotted out, causing them to sound sick. The '82 alarm system uses the same horns Replacement horns are readily available. One is a high note and the other is a low note. The brackets and wiring would have to be adapted to the Vette. If you wanted the...
Both should be powered, not just one. If you have the joystick on your console, there should be a rocker switch in front of it that would select either the left or right mirror. The power mirrors are not available new but can be found used.
I just wanted to add that I changed to a 180 degree stat. The car did run a little cooler but I noticed that when I drove with my real time diagnostic scanner connected, the computer was fluctuating between closed loop and open loop mode. It seemed to be on the borderline. I changed back to a...
I was able to get one on EBay. Keep looking and try different key words. Mine was listed as a "crossover tube". It came off a hurricane damaged 12,000 mile car and looked brand new. The gold cad plating is still shiny. Good luck!
Check all vacuum hoses and connections. There may be one or more leaking. The heater-A/C control valve may be leaking. Look for missing plenum bolts. Check the IAC motors for correct operation. Check the timing. The plenum gaskets may be leaking due to hardening from old age. You can get the...
I tried Pam on my car. It made a mess and was very difficult to remove after. It is greasy and the dirt sticks to it. I usually put a good coat of Zaino on and the bugs come right off with little effort. I would think if you use a wax that has teflon in it, the bugs wouldn't stick that well.
The '82 has a 200 HP engine. The FI is very simple but not very well understood. It gets 19-21 MPG mainly due to the four speed overdrive 700R4 transmission. It is a little lighter in weight due to the use of lighter materials. Other than that, it is the same as an '80/'81. There are aftermarket...
Andy,
The two systems are very different. The Crossfire system has two large fuel injectors that spray fuel into the throttle bodies where it is mixed with air. The fuel/air mixture travels into the intake manifold, goes down the runner tubes and into the cylinder heads. The left throttle body...
Lori, welcome to the site. Good luck in your search.
The '82 is just as great as the other years. It does have some unique features not found on the older models. It has a 4 speed automatic, crossfire injection, a ram air system built into the hood, magnesium valve covers, and of course an...
I had a trailing arm rebuilt by Van Steel. They did a fantastic job. The price increased for mine because I had a cracked bearing housing that they replaced. Another concern will be the spindle, it may not be straight enough to reuse. Mine was bent (the reason I had the arm rebuilt). This added...
I bought mine from Vanacor's Corvette parts. $395

I had to make some adjustments to the piece that supports the lower air dam to get the dam at the correct height. (I think Eckler's buys this part from them.) It is not identical to the stock unit but is...
If the car is lower on one side than the other, it is most likely the spring bolts being tightened unevenly. The nut should be tightened until the cotter pin can just be inserted into the hole. Don't tighten it any further. Do each side the same.
Mike, it is very tight where the mirrors are mounted. I used a thin offset box wrench to unbolt them. It is slow going because you can only turn a little at a time. The windows have to be all the way down and the door panel removed. I suggest you put something on the doors to protect the paint...
