It was on the national news at 7 pm here in the Netherlands.

I thought that the C4 uses 2 trailing links, and is totally different from the C3.
I 've seem quite some mods regarding the installation of C4 set-up into the C3, which involves some cutting, grinding and a lot of welding.

I removed the heater fan and motor from my A/C car with 350 engine. Did that from the top, and it is straight forward.
Do not think that a BB engine would be any different.
I did that for similar reasons: noise with the fan running; no mice in there, and very few leaves.

If the fuse is melting and/or the fitting has done the same thing, then this is an indication of too much resistance, so likely dirty contacts; also the fuse may be the problem, as these are mostly from aluminum, and these get surface corrosion too.

I bought an ECM from Rockauto just over 1 year ago for about $50; this was about half their normal price, as it was one of those left-overs from other suppliers.
Works fine!
The shipping to me was more than the ECM :ugh

I assume that your system pressure is too low; there is a pressure switch on the dryer.
If the pressure is too low, the compressor is protected by the switch.
You could try to jump the switch, or put power on de compressor; do take care of the polarity.
If the compressor then runs, you know that...
