Corvette Action Center Loses a Valued Member

Been awhile since I have visited the forum. Thanks Rob for keeping me up to date. Sorry to hear of Kens passing. As has already been said, Ken was one of a kind and will be greatly missed. We had a great time in BG at the L81 and later C3 meeting, and Ken was always in the middle. That C4...

    Finally getting settled in...

Bud, Sorry we haven't been in touch. Still thinking of all the good times and wish you the best of luck in Amarillo. Brad is about to graduate and been involved I've been spending a bunch on the horses lately, couple of wins last year with a 2yr old. Hopefully we can get back on the road. You...

    throwout bearing?

Got an 81 4 speed. When I press in the clutch there is a constant clicking. Sounds like the throwout bearing needs to be replaced. Anyone have any experience with replacing this without taking it to the shop. I know it has to be a hassle, dropping the transmission and removing the clutch. I...

    brake problem

Well, after I replaced the hoses, it seems like it fixed the problem. Thanks for the help. Not sure the mechanics involved in this, cause the hoses looked fine, but after turning the rotors, new pads and caliper and now new hoses, problems seems like it is fixed. Thanks again.

    brake problem

thanks for the help. I will try and replace the hoses and see what happens. I already tried to break the hose off to get the twist out of it, and it seems pretty corroded in there. I have used penetrating oil etc, and am trying not to destroy the brake line, so I don't have to replace that...

    brake problem

Got a brake problem I hope someone can help me with. When I push on the brakes, I get a bad pull to the right. I replaced both calipers, (one was leaking), pads and turned the rotors. After a quick check, drive around, it was still pulling and the drivers side wheel was "really hot". Seems...

    No electrical power

Success. You have been great Mike working me through this. It has been awhile since I have had to come to this forum for help, but you guys are the best. I owe you when I come to Dallas. Beer, food? Maybe we can get Bud to come over when he gets to Amarillo? Been a while. Thanks again...

    No electrical power

Mike, your the Man!! I tried to replace the ground from the starter bracket to the frame. The old one was pretty corroded. When I ran the jumper from the neg. post of the battery to the frame, it cranked up, or at least turned over. Now I am in the process of replacing the one from the...

    No electrical power

With the headlights on and ignition in run, the cables did not get warm. I had the neg lead from the battery to the volt meter and all three circuits still read 12.2 volts, even though the lights went off and no power was evident anywhere. Based in this, I guess you are saying that the cables...

    No electrical power

You think I can run jumper cables from the battery to ground and starter and bypass the cables to see if it is the cable? Maybe ground first then Positive? It still may be those fusible links, not sure if just having continuity is good enough. Maybe I can just solder these together?

    No electrical power

At the starter. I checked it at the starter and it was building up voltage, I checked it at the battery and it was still 12.2 volts and 12.2 when I pierced it on the cable.

    No electrical power

Thanks Mike. I checked the checked the voltage a few inches from the terminal and it was ok on both the negative and positive leads. I cleaned the ground cable at the frame and got a little further. Was able to open the door and turn the radio on with the key in accessory. I turned the...

    No electrical power

Well, It appears that I have a large voltage drain somewhere. I checked the fusable links and they appear ok, have continuity. Took the starter out and had it checked, it was ok, or at least turned on their machine. Took the battery and it also checked ok. When I check the starter voltage...

Thanks, I checked the starter connections, they look ok. Fusable links? Where are they?

    No electrical power

'81;Got a problem. Changed the starter several weeks ago with no problem. Went cruising, no problem. Went to back it out of the garage the next day and the starter tried to engage, then lost all power. Checked the battery and cable, seem to be ok. messed with the starter and ground, still no...

    timing

Good to hear from you Tom. I guess so. Anyway, I adjusted the timing to 8 deg and it stopped missing, but still was a little weak. I readjusted to 12 deg and it runs really well. I guess what I was looking for was someone to tell me to set it 4 notches before zero and then 6 notches if it...

    timing

Vette is running a little sluggish. I reset the time to 8 deg BTDC. In all the books, it refers to the VECI under the hood. What should the timing be set at for an 81? I don't have the emission control BS on the car anymore, have headers etc. It was running really bad, probably >20 deg...

    Clutch stud/engine

Success! Got the stud, crawled under the car (tight squeeze-didn't jack it up) and used a right angle drill to drill it out. Used an extractor and got the broken stud out. Put new one in and "back on the road". Thanks, just looking for some encouragement.
