Ok mystery is solved. Being caused by a blown head gasket. Confirmed it with a tester that checks for combustion gas in the cooling system. Double confirmed now that the heads are sitting in the floor of my garage. Apparently the heater control valve can't stand a little extra pressure. POS, but...
I've had the little black plastic heater control valve burst twice this week. It's a easy fix but I would rather fix whatever is causing this. Anyone else had this problem or heard of it.
