Correct shift points (RPM) on ‘82 700R-4

Interesting. A while back I ran across a mention of the shift points as you describe but did not bookmark it and now can’t find it. As mentioned above, prior to rebuild it did not shift through the gears so quickly nor hold them so long. We used the same valve body and TV cable. Those...

Correct shift points (RPM) on ‘82 700R-4

We did replace the TV cable but no change. We are now looking at the governor...It was rebuilt but it might not be correct for application (Corvette is apparently different than regular cars in this respect). After that we are thinking valve body. Just a few oversights from an otherwise very...

Correct shift points (RPM) on ‘82 700R-4

Hello all, recently had the 700R-4 in our ‘82 rebuilt. Before, it leaked like a sieve and I don’t think it was achieving lock up. Post rebuild it no longer leaks, has nice crisp shifts and seems to be getting lock up, however, it shifts very quickly on the way up (1800-ish or less under...

    Help! Passenger door latch failure

Update Thanks for everyone's help. I have solved the door issue. Elected to order a new exterior handle (Trim Parts - I know their quality from Camaro-World and the online reviews by Corvette folks makes them the go to for repop handles). Removed the latch and everything moved as it should...

    Question: Poly vs. rubber bushings

That is an interesting analysis of the new rubber bushings. It would be interesting to see how much, if any, difference there is.

    Help! Passenger door latch failure

I had considered that. Not being sure exactly where my problem lay I decided to clean it in situ with brake clean and the re-lube with a dry lubricant (PTFB). Not ideal but I thought it might let me see some improvement. For the inside release there was a benefit but not so much the outside...

    Help! Passenger door latch failure

I had considered that butbthe AIM shows 1" of thread past barrel adjuster...that approximately what I have:confused:confused. The real issue is that I can't figure out how to remove the barrel adjuster from the latch...any hints there? I know it has a retainer but I can't see it nor figure out...

    Help! Passenger door latch failure

Interesting - and thanks for the link:thumb I understand that will make the door handle pop back up but will it aid in making it open the door again? I have disassembled 4 of these doors in the past (L & R on a '69 and a '70) but have never had to put one back together or adjust them.

    Help! Passenger door latch failure

On our '82 the passenger door latch mostly looks like this: One can feel spring tension when it is depressed and it returns about half way home consistently. Sometimes it will return to the full rest position (in line with the top of door) but not always. It does, however, always fail to...

    Help! 1982 TPS help please

Right...but I wanted to be certain I was testing the correct pins so the "ground" and "hot" were just convenient designations be sure I was using the correct pins. I might have ended up test resistance between ground and the variable voltage pin...the results of which would have confused me...

    Help! 1982 TPS help please

True enough:), just wanted to sure I had the culprit as I would surely hate to replace the TPS and find that something else is responsible for the low reading;)

    Help! 1982 TPS help please

    Replacing speakers in an '82

Yeah, I'd like to keep the OEM head unit. I like the original look and the fact that the wiring (and the dash) is not hacked up...kind of amazing after 32 years. I will look into RetroSound - thanks!:thumb

    Replacing speakers in an '82

LOL. I don't expect much in hi-fidelity from the head unit but let's face it...automobiles are less than perfect acoustic environments and C-3s even less so. Mostly want to be able to listen to terrestrial radio (FM). I recall the big deal when GM used Bose speakers for "premium" sound in...

    Help! 1982 TPS help please

OK, got it :). Any way other than what I have done to verify the health of the TPS? Hate to just buy parts and throw them at the problem.

    Help! 1982 TPS help please

I had considered the cable or maladjusted throttle linkage. The difference between operating the throttle linkage by hand at the manifold and at the pedal is ~.08-.12v, so not a lot really. Certainly not even close to the .92v I am short overall. But an excellent thought none the less. :thumb...

    Help! 1982 TPS help please

So far every reference I've run across says it should be 5v...no range, just a flat 5v. :mad Not being argumentative, just reiterating what I've read. Thinking through it all I come to the following: 1) How do I determine if 4.08v is truly signally the ECM that the car is at WOT allowing...

    Help! 1982 TPS help please

Update Did get around to adjusting the TPS (just waited for a Snap-On MTG-2500 to show up after a N EBay purchase:D). The scanner backed up my reading of .624 at closed position. Adjusted to .52v (scanner started giving me problems - user error I believe - and my multi-meter only goes out 2...

    Question: Poly vs. rubber bushings

Essentially, that echoes the current line of thinking in Camaro world.:D Looks like I am best off to just go rubber here (need it for strut rods and need to match the uppers). I have heard that some of the current crop of rubber bushings do not meet the quality of OE (for longevity and...
