1986 GM Restoration Part Fuel Sender

I am replacing my fuel sender assembly because it has somewhat corroded I suspect from the 10% alcohol in all the fuel now. My question is that the old original sender assembly had a pulsator mounted between the pump and the sender assembly to the fuel outlet. The GM restoration part comes...

Help! Restoring a 1986 Indy Pace Car Convertible

Are you sure the motor needs a rebuild? Sometimes you can burn oil because the valve stem seals have worn out and no longer do their job. Cost for seals about $30 + Valve cover gaskets another $20. You could also have one or more leaking fuel injectors, that can cause hard starting after a...

Fuel Pump Pulsator - Keep it or Eliminate it?

Motor has 55000 miles and is tight, doesn't burn any oil. Only driven about 2000 miles a year and never abused. This is my baby. Never driven in the rain or snow. I have owned it for over 15 years and am the second owner. Got it when it had less than 24000 miles on it. It is a very...

Fuel Pump Pulsator - Keep it or Eliminate it?

Ok, I checked the fuel pressure at idle, it is holding at 39 psi at 650 RPM, when I shut off the engine it goes up to 43 psi and it held there for over a half hour. I removed the fuel pressure gage at that point. I have an adjustable regulator. Pressure was measured with the vacuum hose attached...

Fuel Pump Pulsator - Keep it or Eliminate it?

Can a bad Pulsator cause my fuel lines to rattle also? The motor runs fine with the old pulsator, but maybe a new one would help the ratlle problem. I had good fuel pressure before I changed out the bad sender, I haven't checked the pressure with the new sender and pump though. It might be my...

Fuel Pump Pulsator - Keep it or Eliminate it?

I just replaced the fuel level sender unit in my 86' because it was giving erratic level readings. While I was at it I replaced the fuel pump. Only used original Ac Delco parts for the replacement. I did not realize that there was a pulsator between the pump and fuel line so I had to use the old...

    Question: Correct antifreeze!

I replaced the antifreeze in my 1986 back in 1994 when I got the car. I flushed very thouroughly and then replaced with the Prestone Dexcool equivalent (Orange) and distilled water, 50/50 mix, also added a bottle of Prestone water pump lube to the mix. I have flushed and replaced it every 5...

    Original 1986 battery Info

I have been to that site before, only have info up to the 70's. Since the C4's aren't quite old enough yet to have those kind of repro parts yet I am not sure I'll have much luck finding the info I need. If I can just get a picture of an original 1986 battery I might be able to reproduce...

whats wrong with my air conditioner.?

Make sure the condenser is not blocked, I mean on the outside. I took mine out a few years ago and between the radiator and the condenser there was a lot of leaves and road debris. It was blocked about a third of the way from the bottom. Cleaned it out and cooling for the AC and the motor...

    Original 1986 battery Info

I want to re-create the look of the original battery that came from the factory with my C4 . Of course the original was long gone when I purchased the vehicle 15 years ago. Is there a source for this info, any good pictures available? I contacted AC-Delco but they do not keep an archive of this...

    Fuel Sender Diagnosis

I just started driving my 86' after the long winter storage. Just before I put it away last November it had a full tank of gas and I added Sta-Bil. I started it a few times during the winter and kept the battery charged up. I just recently filled the tank up again after storage, the fuel gage...

    Installing aftermarket Cd-player?

Keep in mind that the Bose system sends a low power signal to each speaker/amp, the signal is amplified right at each speaker. If you wire in an aftermarket head unit and wire the outputs to the Bose speaker/amplifier unit you will instantly blow the amp or the speaker. If you are going to...

This is why this forum is so valuable to me! Thanks for the incredible response. I should be able to find a local source for these parts now that you have supplied me with the part numbers I need.

    U-Joints - Aluminum Driveshafts

I have the factory aluminum driveshaft and halfshafts in my 1986. I need to replace the U-Joints. I see that there are optional anti-galvanic U-joints available for this application. Has anybody had experience with these, are they absolutely necessary.

    86 Vette not running

Is the IAC adjusted properly? There is a procedure for this. If you don't adjust it using the prper procedure the engine will not idle properly. Here's a procedure I found online that I have used on my 86 L98 when I installed a new IAC. I hope the author won't mind -
