After reading and researching for many months here and elsewhere, I installed a set of the Magnaflow mufflers #15623. The sound at idle and "goosing" it is great. The notorious resonance on my first long trip between 1600 to 1800 rpm is horrible--I'm near deaf after two days of this. It is bad...
Replaced it with the MSD unit and fired right up
I will send it back since it has a warranty--have to get an RMA. Not sure what failed other than when I replaced it with the MSD unit it fired right up?????
Stick to the ZF recomendations of GM or BMW oil.
I went with Redline synthetic with an extra bottle of limited slip additive for the rear axle. You have to suck it out or drill a drain hole.
Here is some info on the Delteq. This is similar to the system used on GM cars like the Northstar and a few others. http://delteq.com/ It has been used on motorcycles for years. Called lost spark.
Still think the Delteq is a good design
Sorry for the confusion. I replaced the stock opti as a preventive measure with a new cheap ebay opti still using the Delteq when I replaced the water pump again. The Delteq is a good design in that it removes the high voltage/arcing/corona etc. and only...
Ebay opti died at 60 miles replaced with MSD unit
Ebay cheap opti failed at 60 miles--stranded me on the freeway in the dark!! Ordered MSD unit that from Summit. Got it in one day. Found that MSD now ships both a square cross section gasket and a oring for sealing the cap. If you try to use...
96 LT4 with 90,000 miles and Delteq. Been running perfectly with Delteq for more than 2 years. Water pump was leaking again so decided to replace opti at the same time as I replaced the pump after reading horror stories here. Found opti on ebay for $149 as referenced elsewhere --depicted as...
Yes, I still have it--it is complete with rotors, calipers, mounting brackets and mounting bolts. If you send me an email at ronlcolvin@gmail.com I will send you a picture. Rotors are in good shape never turned.
After struggling for years with poor stopping power I switched over to the C5 front conversion on my 1996 CE.
Bought a C5 conversion kit from VB & P to replace my J55's--see link for kit descriiption (http://www.vbandp.com/detail.aspx?ID=292. I installed it in ~ 3 hours four months ago...
The short throw shifter from ZF Doc would have been nice. As far as trans oils--tried them all from Redline Synthetics, etc. I think it was 75W-90 all the way up to 75-140--Only quiet when cold in the mornings otherwise no better than the 10w-60 from Castrol/BMW. The thicker oils did exhibit...
Here is some info. I did all the work myself laying on the garage floor with a transmission jack from Harbor Freight. AND, I GOT TO DO IT TWICE. I used the Carolina clutch stage 2 kit. When I asked Carolina Clutches before I spent the $900 for the kit, Tom said that the flywheel and...
Here is some info regarding my LT-4 and my Fidanza fun and games. I did all the work myself laying on the garage floor with a transmission jack from Harbor Freight. AND, I GOT TO DO IT TWICE. I used the Carolina clutch stage 2 kit. When I asked Carolina Clutches before I spent the $900 for...
Fidanza and Stage 2 clutch
I have been driving a Fidanze and Stage 2 clutch for over a year. Does have gear rattle noise at idle. You also get what some call clutch spring resonance between 1 and 2K rpm under moderate to heavy load--lugging if you will but you can drive around this issue...
Just put 285 Kumho ASXs front and back after getting another pair of rear wheels--stock A mold 17x9.5s for the front. Very happy. Much improved handling and ride.
