    A TPMS Headache!!!

Success at last !!! Yes, late last fall before I put the Vette away for the winter I called the Corvette Center in Newington, CT. I asked if they ever had a problem cloning TPMS sensors on C5 Corvettes? Yes they had! On one C5 after 4 different attempts with 4 different brands of sensors, they...

    A TPMS Headache!!!

Thanks Andy, I ordered that 19 dollar round magnet off Ebay, it will be here next week. I will get the procedure off the Google search and advise the results. Thanks again, Dangerous Dan

    A TPMS Headache!!!

Does that procedure require the heavy washer style magnet with the hole sized to fit over the valve stem? I don't have one but I will buy one if you think it will work. I could not get the DIC to offer the relearn procedure as the 4 wheel locations are already built into the display. I tried...

    A TPMS Headache!!!

Hi Andy, Thanks for getting back to me. This issue is driving me nuts. I have spent over 100 bucks on the two sensors I purchased. about 40 for the Autel Universal and 60 ish for the pre programed sensor from Ecklers. I did let air out of the right rear and went for a short ride. It read low...

    A TPMS Headache!!!

Follow up on the headache. I bought a pre programmed sensor from Ecklers for 97 to 2000 models. I installed it and still no pressure reading for the left rear tire. Is it possible the computer just can't receive the left rear information and it is not the sensor's fault? Strange that the other 3...

    A TPMS Headache!!!

I was checking my tire pressures out on the road with the tires all warmed up. I got good readings (34-36) on three wheels but the left rear pressure was blank. I figured the battery in the TPMS sensor was dead so I bought a new one, broke the outer bead and installed it. Still no reading. It...

    It's gas strut time!

If you can compress them by hand (even a little bit) they are done! My 2000 C5 had Stabilus lift struts, yours probably does too. I believe that is a German company. Any auto parts store should be able to either cross reference the part number on your struts, PS: they are not the same, don't mix...

    It's gas strut time!

Time for the trunk now! Changing the trunk struts is a 10 minute job, very easy. With the new struts I don't have to struggle to get my fingers under the lid to open it. There is a 1 inch gap now. Dangerous Dan:)

    It's gas strut time!

Time for the trunk now! I just ordered up the trunk struts. They are Strongarm part#4066. 7 dollars each on Rock Auto plus 5 bucks for post office shipping. Advance auto wanted 17$ each.

    It's gas strut time!

Is it open enough??? Yes it is! It seems to be in exactly the same position as the original Stabilus brand OEM"S were. The drape that covers the Tonneau deck touches somewhat but it just passes by with no issues. Dangerous Dan

    It's gas strut time!

Easy job, not as bad as I thought ! I got the Tonneau cover struts swapped out in about 1/2 an hour. I didn't get in the trunk at all. I found it a lot easier to move the seats all the way forward, put the seat back down and crawl in head first from the front. I put a bungee cord around the top...

    It's gas strut time!

As soon as we have a day that isn't 90 plus, I will do the job. Thanks again for the help. Dangerous Dan

    It's gas strut time!

A little late for your tips !!! I already bought the struts from Rock Auto. They are Strongarm part number 4065. The Rock catalog says they can be used on either the trunk lid or the waterfall cover. Strongarm tech says the 4065's are only for the waterfall application and the trunk needs their...

    It's gas strut time!

After 18 years my 2000 C5 needs new struts to hold the waterfall cover open when putting the top up and down. They don't look like much fun to change out. The trunk lid struts are out in the open but the top cover needs work from underneath. Step one is to remove the black plastic covers over...

Question: At 1/3 the cost are they any good????

Clarifying my statement on the welding! I agree the welds on the muffler were done by hand. The exhaust pipe flanges were the boring robotic type! Dangerous Dan

Question: At 1/3 the cost are they any good????

On the road again! "Pure" stainless steel is difficult to machine, form or bend so a ferritic alloy stainless is used.. Regarding the previous post above, I checked the entire system with a magnet. All the sheet metal and tubing are non-magnetic. The manufacturer claims it's 304SS. Those...

Question: At 1/3 the cost are they any good????

Now the results!! I only used the cheap 10mm bolts to mock up the assembly, I used the original bolts for final assembly with SS flat washers and lock washers. Ok, lets talk about appearance first. The stainless shows thru the rear vents and looks neat. It also shows below the rear bumper...

Question: At 1/3 the cost are they any good????

It's install time To get your old system off your Corvette is not easy at home. As you can see in #335, you have to get way up off the garage floor to twist the old system out. My big jack stands have an inch of air above them and my long reach high lift floor jack is maxed out. It was just...

Question: At 1/3 the cost are they any good????

More pictures from my previous post! The muffler construction seems normal, the inlet branches into two perforated tubes that are attached to the exhaust tip pipes. The perforated tube is either surrounded by a stainless steel wool packing or the whole muffler canister is filled with it. No way...
