Rust is the enemy here....Make sure you have the shims cotter keys ect before you take it in.Also it wouldent be a bad ideal to look and make sure everything is up to snuff parts wise.
If you look at the assembly and or service manual the roof panels do not sit flush with the roof.they sit about a good 1/8 inch higher than the body.If you try to compress them down you will break them.The adjustment is done with the shims under the glass to latch assembly on the tops.
Its true that silicone brake fluid will not absorb water, but the fluid will float on top of water and if the water is at the lowest point in the system. IE the calipers,guess what happens next? You get rusty caliper pistions and a spongy pedal.
I hope you mean you used a union fitting and reflaired the line! A compression fitting is not to be used to repair brake lines! If that comes apart under a panic stop your in for a scarry ride!
Check the regulator gear (the half moon looking gear) Most of the time the last two teeth get knocked off and thats what happens.I rebuilt my regulator and it works great and it wasent that hard of a job.zipps corvette had a great step by step how to on their web site.
Well I have sort of the same trouble as mine does not show empty when it is in fact empty. Mine is empty at 1/8 tank, from what Ive been told 80 t0 82 had a lined gas tank and the liner shrinks and kits the float arm and causes erronious readings. Take a good strong flashlight and take a look...
