I officially want to slap the crap out of the design engineer that put the fuse block on my 81 where it is.
Unless you're 4' tall and can contort yourself like an octopus it is nearly impossible to access that SOB... especially the AC fuse😡
As I recall; most all aftermarket rag joint (steering couplers) and aftermarket-rebuilt steering boxes are of a very subpar quality so, is there any updates on vendors offering these two needed items in 'high quality' products?
I remember a fella named 'Gary' was the king of steering box...
Been a while since I visited (hope all is well) I now need a radiator!
Auto Zone, Advanced Auto etc are only offering the aluminum/plastic tank rads for my 81 ($260.00 w/lifetime replacement) and I actually have one of those in my 1988 F250 diesel for several years that has been working great...
Just finished rebuilding my 1981 TH350c
Before I install it back in the car, I noticed the outside plug that connects to the transmission has 3-wires > however, one of those three connect to nothing!
Note the case socket...(only two connectors)
Inside the trans pan, the lock-up solenoid is...
Does anyone know of an 'expensive' bushing driver tool (Harbor Freight etc) that WILL work on all the bushings in my TH350c ?
It's killing me that I may have to pay $$$ for the below, and only use it (hopefully) once!
BTW, local trans shops get pissed if you're offer to 'pay' them to install...
As some may know, unless I'm working on my cars suspension, I don't like the suspension to hang.
I'm contemplating on R&R my TH350c transmission and need to get the car up a little higher...higher than what my current drive-on ramps allow.
So, I would like to place my 12-Ton Jack stands...
Long story short...seeing ATF just above the trans-pan and just inside the trans case lip, it appears my TH350 has to come out > (all other leak points have been addressed) I believe it's leaking at the pump input seal.
So, the car is off the ground, drove the front up on ramps and the rear...
So, while my car is (still) up on jack stands I dropped the leaky tranz pan...last trans service I used (cork/rubber) AC Delco but it has been weeping.
Question #1
is there any other manufacture of filter/gasket that may be better than the AC Delco product? And should I again use sealant on...
Just pulled my rear spindles out of the trailing Arms...not to debate the slip vs interference bearing-fit but, mine are 'slip-fit' and there is no evidence of any problems > bearings and races look GREAT!
Onto grease...for the bearings 'prior service' I used 'Sta-Lube EP Hi-Temp black moly...
Did a 'search' but didn't find anything.
Just wondering, what's preferred for a 'sealant' between the aluminum/paper/aluminum diff cover for a 80-82 diff?
NO synthetic gear oil will be used!
I already have...
Permatex HighTack Gasket Sealant (brush-on) I like this stuff, but for gear oil...
Yep, during my diff removal I had to pull down the OE rear y-pipe. It was thin and had some small holes at the 'Y' junction.
Hat's off to Auto Zone (the only store) for matching the best price I could find, from Summit Racing, and saving me a significant amount of $$$
Walker #40469
BTW, the...
The OE seal that came out was quite solid, heavy and beefy...looks like the 'Timken Seal' Summit is selling here > http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tmk-5778v/overview/
Today I looked at a SKF Pinion Seal below and it was wimpy looking...I always though CR/SKF were good seals...
What's your favorite retailer/parts supplier, and why?
Quality, Price, Shipping?
Over the years there sure seems to be a LOT more venders!
Ecklers...last time was mid 80's for a steering Control Valve
Corvette Paramedics (somewhat local to me 40 miles away) ...headlight-door parts
Mid...
So, how difficult is it to press-in new camber strut arm bushings, and, is this a good place to use Polyurethane or stay with rubber?
BTW, I don't have a "press" but used my vice with some oversized sockets and or C-Clamps that work quite well for things that need to be "pressed in" :thumb
Hey folks, I remember a long time ago someone like Ecklers, Mid America etc offered an "off road pipe" that directly bolted in-place of the 1981 Catalytic Converter...it even had a bung on it for the air pipe tube.
But I can't find them anymore...are they still being offered?
Took the Vette in for an alignment, and to get the alignment 100% the rear has to come out > too much end play/wear in the yokes :hb
Over the decades I can and have done a LOT of work on engines and vehicles, but now at 55 with a damaged rotators cuff, laying on my back under that car...
