Where is the temp. vaccum switch and how can i check it?
Are you talking about dielectric grease? or something else?
I don't think i have any vaccum issues, I can't hear any sucking or whistling noises.
Tried the ohm test on the wires tonight.
I had the tester set on 200 ohms (looks like a horseshoe symbol) and ech wire was between a .80 to a 1.0. Does this sound right? I am going to get my electrician brother to look at the tester to see if I had the setting correct. Anyway all wires were...
thanks for the reply, i could not remember if it was ohms or another part of the meter, the wires are aftermarket taylor and look to be the same vintage as the distributor.
checking the plug wires will be my next activity.
Hey guys, I have a 78 with a mallory unilite distributor (comp 9000 part number 9148201) with mallory wires and headers. This is an older distributor as I bought the car in 1998 and it was in the car then.
I have cleaned all the distributor cap contacts and rotor cap contacts in an effort to...
Update
New radiator is now in, with almost all hoses reconnected.
Just have to refill with new 50/50 prestone mix and install the new thermostat along with a new fan clutch.
How much tranny oil was in the old radiator tranny cooler? Just wondering how much I will need to add back.
Very...
Just to update, the dewitt has been ordered A77A, a new temp sending unit, and a seal kit from dr. rebuild. Hopefully this will fix my cooling issues this summer. Thanks for all the replies.
I feel special Hib Halverson responded on my thread, thank you. My brush with a corvette celebrity...
Thanks for all the replies, as usual you get what you pay for.
I think a new radiator will solve my problems. The car runs cool as long as the AC is not
on during our hot months of May through September.
Considering a Dewitt radiator. Progress Update.
It's been awhile since I posted here. I'm considering a new radiator for my 78 vette since it tries to overheat during the summer with the air conditioning running. If you have replaced a vette radiator, please leave your experiences both good and...
gmjunkie, you are saying that the lucas product will fix my problem without replacing any parts? that is pretty hard to believe, a mechanical fix in a bottle.
I know lucas has good products.
First, everyone please have a great labor day weekend.:upthumbs
My steering on my 78 has started feeling like it has no power steering.
Plenty of fluid in the pump and no whinning sound like its low of fluid.
All steering components look to be of the 78 vintage, has my slave cylinder...
If you have to go with a different transmission, check with www.tciauto.com.
They have a great reputation.
Any news, I have been following your thread.
Thanks for the replies, he backed out on selling the tranny.
We had made a deal for 300 even (no money changed hands)and he decided today to keep it for his monte carlo project.
So my vette will have to wait a while for a better tranny.
The guy wants 350 for the tranny and converter, it has 61,000 miles on it and has been shifting good. Just taken out of the car, his family has owned the car since new. Is this a good price for this particular tranny?
I have an opportunity to obtain a 200r4 tranny out of a 85 monte carlo that is coming out from behind a 305 v-8. Is this a direct bolt in to replace the 350 tranny that is in my 78 vette? My engine is a stock L82
with headers and chambered exhaust. Car is a cruiser and not a drag car by any...
The 72 is very archaic by today's standards. In 72 it was state of the art, much as the 2002 was in 02. With gas at 3.00 dollars per gallon, I would prefer the 72 since neither is realistically going to be driven much.
The 72 has a "presence" that the 02 will NEVER have, in my opinion.
