Check out www.tpis.com, they are just one of several companies that offer excelllent after market parts for the L98 engine. To get up to around 300 + HP is not very difficult. Start with a good free flowing exhaust system, change out the chip and swap over to a K&N air filter with an open lid...
If you do decide the part the car out I see several parts that I would be very interested in taking off your hands. Particularly the Miniram II, the throttle body and the AFR heads (with rockers). I would certainly pay top dollar assuming the parts are all in good working order.
Solved my problem. It turned out to be the pick-up coil in the distributor. The sensor had basically (in electrical terms) opened up (infinite resistance). The normal resistance reading should be about 500 to 1500 ohms. The new unit that I purchased read about 800 ohms right out of the box. The...
I am having the same exact problem with my '88. Have already replaced the coil and ignition module. I am going to perform some test today to see if the pick-up coil is ok.
Be sure to let us know if you solve the problem and what the solution actually was.
I have been trying to decide what to do about my system for a while now but did not want to replace the head unit with anything that did not fit right. I also wanted to keep the original wiring in tact. I decided to go with the Pioneer direct fit unit from Mid-America Part Number 611-152-C...
I have a set of Dynomax installed on my 1988 Coupe. Originally went for them because of the cost and I needed something quick to replace the worn out stock system. While I was at it I also went with true duals from the front to the back (no cats at all). I must admit it is a little louder than I...
I have the same problem with my 88 Coupe. It has pretty unrestircted flow (no cats) so it's pretty loud. I run Dynomax mufflers (not top of the line but I have been told on more than one occasion it sounds pretty darn good.)
I've been thinking about a crossover at the front or maybe even an X...
Since you have removed the Casper unit I would suggest that you clear the codes by disconnecting the battery for a few seconds, re-connect battery, start the car, note symptoms and then re-check codes just to see if they are repeatable.
By the way the 50 pound pressure reading is a little high...
Ken -
Sounds like a great service. Will keep them in mind as I am about to start Stage II of my mods. This time I'm going deep into the engine...or I guess I should say the engine is coming out and completely apart for this one. Will keep you guys informed as I progress and try to offer some...
Somewhat contradicting aren't they. Well by now you probably already know that if it's the MAF Sensor it is going to cost you some bucks about $150 or so with a core return BUT I would not jump to that conclusion just yet.
I know for a fact that the car will actually run pretty good with the MAF...
I agree with Ken but specific codes would be helpful. I have an 88 as well and ran into a similiar problem. It just so happens that it occurred at a time when I was about to park the car for a while to do a few mods. Unfortunately I can't tell you which thing I did corrected the problem but I...
Injector Cleaning
It might be a bit over the top but TPIS will clean and calibrate your injectors for $15 bucks each. For an additional $10 bucks they will even blueprint them. If an old clogged injector can be cleaned and re-used it is a significant savings as opposed to replacing a supspected...
Rims
RJSROCKET and others-
Finally got around to reducing the size of a couple of pics of my rims. The attached pic is before the final polishing with the resto kit. At this point all clear coat had been removed and I later removed them from the car and did the final polish.
With the color of...
Mad-Mic,
I have been asking myself the "which cam" question for a while now. I have an 88 Coupe with the following mods...
1988 Corvette Coupe, Automatic 120K Miles
Air Foil
Adjustable Fuel Regulator
High Performance Plug Wires
K&N Filter
Modified Air Filter Lid
Modified MAF Sensor (Screens Out)...
Edmond,
The L-98 motor is the prime focus for most of the upgrades and test but a lot of their suggestions will work well on most small block Chevy's. As their name suggest they can work wonders with TPI engines.
I highly recommend this book. It may seem a bit pricey for a small paperback book...
