Looking for mechanic in SF Bay Area

After years of going to a shop in the far East Bay I recently tried a new place (new for me) in Hayward. I have to tell you that they fixed what I couldn't get done at the other place.....runs like a champ. They also gave me a list of things to consider repairing in the next year or so. The...

How to fix a sagging door?

Thanks. You've explained it well. Sounds like a weekend deal. ms

    rear end rebuild

Tom: The GM additive is fine.......you just need more. Apparently twice as much. I don't know if his statements are accurate, but he sure knows Corvettes. I usually do what he says.....and it always works. ms

How to fix a sagging door?

My 70 coupe has a door that hasn't closed easily for a while and now it is difficult to open. The door sags. Is there a write up somewhere to explain how to fix it? I don't know if it needs shims, a bushing, a pin or all three. ms

    rear end rebuild

My mechanic swears GM sent out a bulletin years after these cars were made instructing people to use two bottles of the slip differential additive. Apparently it prevents excessive axle end wear. ms

How many of you C3 owners have a Fire extinguisher in your vette?

I have one. Keep in nestled between the passenger seat back and the transmission tunnel. Stays put.....never had a problem with it moving around. It is small and would last about 15 seconds, but any problem requiring more than that is probably too much for me to handle. I do not recall...

    Rear wheel angle

Mike: What you discribed is exactly what I just experienced. I ended up replacing both axles. The 'Vette only' mechanic I use when it comes to more involved repairs made a big deal about Chevrolet not telling Vette owners to use more additive in the rear end. He absolutely swears that twice...

    W/S wipers

Not sure why you blame the relay. Pehaps you've already checked the fuse and the manual override switch at the base of the dash/steering column. Chances are the override switch has somehow been disconnected or it has been turned down to the 'stop' position. Regardless, I would check...

    feeling stupid

I don't know if your 74 is the same as my 70, but I had to disconnect the cables from the shifter console and let penetrating oil run down the inner cable. I did this while alternating working the cable in and out. At first it was very difficult but I did this on and off for a couple nights...

Need Help 70 Mechanical Ignition Lockout

Thanks guys, I was able to disconnect the cable at the firewall and I could manually move the lever. I then inspected the cable and saw a little more exposed inner cable at the transmission than I thought was needed.....so I took a pair of vice grips and pulled on the inner cable from the...

Need Help 70 Mechanical Ignition Lockout

I may not have the terminology right, but in my 70 I have to have the 4 speed in reverse in order to turn the ignition key. Problem is the lockout doesn't always engage fully and I cannot turn the key. I've been able in the past to grip the steering column and rotate the movable lockout...

Want to add an additional switch in ignition circuit

Thanks for the input. For whatever reason I feel I just have to do something like this. I'll find the right place to splice in a switch and hide it like it's .......well you know. Thanks again. ms

Want to add an additional switch in ignition circuit

I want to add a cut off switch or another device in the ignition circuit as a theft prevention measure. I have the inside of the car all torn out while I install insulation/sound deadener and thought this would be the ideal time to run any additional wires. I've thought about putting the...

    Service Manual 1970

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but the 1970 Chevrolet Service Manual specifically references the 1969 model for the Corvette. Is there a Service Manual for the 70 Vette or do you use the 69 version? I have one 1970 Service Bulletin that references the 1969 Service Manaul and...

T Top Stowage '70 Please explain how!

I am tearing up the rear compartment carpet due to a wiring problem and wanted to install the missing T Top strap buckle that mounts to the rear compartment deck. I pulled the carpet up and found two sets of holes where brackets apparenly mount. Based upon the diagram in the 70 assembly...

    Need Wire Harness Pins 1970

Looking for replacement wire pins used in the dash/interior compartment wire harness connectors of a 70 Vette. If you don't have them but know where to find them I'd appreciate the information. ms

    new to board

Frank: Nice car........but then I've got a 70 red vette too. I got mine earlier this year after many years of looking and putting kids through school. Oh by the way, I worked for the French guys...Air Liquide. Small world. I've been fixing all kinds of things....and I've never had more...

    Center console/climate vacuum system?

The lamp for the cigar lighter actually fits into the side of the 'hole' the element fits into. When the car lights are turned on, the cigar lighter lamp illuminates the 'hole'. It is rather faint, but it illuminates the hole enough to help you place the element back into it when the car...
