I really would appreciate some price advice. I have a line on an 02 Torch Red/Black 6 speed coupe with 5500 miles. Perfect condition with Option PKg 2, Polished Wheels, 12 Disc CD. No paint chips and paint looks better than new. Corsa exhaust is installed but no other mods and he still has the original pipes and mufflers.

This is not an advertised car as I found out about it from his son and he is only selling because he is going to order an 06 Z06. I am the only person that has looked at it and he is willing to sell it to me for $29.5. From all I can tell it looks like a very fair price but really would like some more expert opinions.

Seems a little high to me. The book on the car is as follows.
AVG TRADE 24600.00
CLEAN TRADE 27400.00
XTRA CLEAN TRADE 28450.00

The mileage is very attractive and sounds like a nice car. The price of a clean low mileage vette depends on just how close it is to what you are looking for. I am sure at that price you would not get hurt in buying it but you may be able to do a little better if you looked around.

Thanks for the input Mike.

I would certainly say that it was X-clean. Given that your prices are for trade-in values would you say it would be a good deal if I can get it for $29 or under, especially from a private seller with no sales tax, or should I be closer to $28K or under?

I've looked around at many sites and it seems that everyone is still asking over $30K and most around $32K, but I know that doesn't mean that is what they sell for and you certainly would know.

Thanks,

You'll be apayin the tax when you get your registration won't you? At least here in Ohio that's the way it works.

A private sale at 29500 with that milage isn't far off the mark. I realize that Jagsfan is a dealer and he just quoted trade-in prices, but I don't know anyone including Bob McDorman that is going to be willing to sell one for trade-in value :D. I'm thinking 29 to 30 is going to be pretty average, I just bought an 02 six speed with 35k miles in fair condition for 26K.

No sales tax here in georgia for private party sales.

I want the Corsa exhaust so it is a bonus for me-but in general is that a plus or minus on a resale like this?

I appreciate all of the comments and others feel free to chime in if you have an opinion.

I think if he advertised the car, it would go pretty quickly at that price. I think low mileage cars are very desirable, and the blue book doesn't really reflect that well. That's just what I've noticed when buying and selling cars- not necessarily vettes.

I think the Corsas would be a plus on resale, especially if you have the original exhaust.

Corsa I think is a plus. Yes trade in values are what I quoted. I think I said it was probably a fair price but you should try to get it a little cheaper. You always gotta try LOL. If I remeber right isnt Georgia personal property tax. And I do think you will have to pay something in Georgia when you get the plates. I think they go off the value of the car don't they? If you like the car I don't think you would be hurt in the price it sounds like a xtra clean car.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Georgia does have an Ad Valorem tax but not necessarily due when you register the car and you are only talking about a couple of hundred dollars versus about $1800 for sales tax at 6%. It is already paid on the vehicle for this year and would not be due again until the anniversary of the last payment, (original owners B-day). I bought an 05 Avalanche a few months ago from a private seller and only paid normal tag and title fees, (about $30), when I registered it at the county DMV.

I too always want it as low as possible. I am going to try to offer him $28K and see where that takes us. I know he really does not like the sales process and he is pretty excited about the new Z06. I even called him yesterday and let him know that the Z06 Test Drive show was about to air on the Speed Channel. I figure after watching that he might pay me to take the 02 off his hands so he can order the Z06-LOL.

Do it or lose it !!!!!!!!!!!

The minute you offer him $28,000 he is going to call somebody to get a reaction. I know if he called me the first thing that l would say is wait a day and let me ask around because the price is really excellent and l can get you more for sure.

There is a fine line between being smart and greedy. Wouldn't you feel like a fool if came back at you and said let me think about it and in a day he tells you that he sold it for say $29,000 or even $28,500.

How you discribed the owner l feel that if somebody offered him more he would just take it rather then barter with you.

This is your choice, if the bucks are tight stick to your guns if not be a smart business man and go and see him in person and ask him if he will take $29,000 and if not just take it.

That's my two cents, you get what you pay for.

Alan

Good Luck
