Hey, just wondering what everyone is doing in the 1/4th mile with their STOCK C5's?

1/4 mile times

I have a stock '97 A4 that I race several dates per year. I have about 40 timed runs. The track is at 2600ft elevation and it is generally in the 90 degree area when I run. My times range from 14.1 to 14.4 at 99 to 103 MPH. There are C5s faster than that at this strip, and C5s that are slower. I would like to get into the 13's, but I need a lower elevation or modifications to get there. It seems that the elevation makes quite a bit of difference, and the temperature matters, but not as much as the elevation.
I hope this is useful.

01 coupe, a4, all oem at sealevel 80 degree day I ran 13.5's Added a blackwing and 70 degree day I ran 13.2's. If I had a hundred lb driver I woukld crack a 12.

1/4 mile

Does anyone know the correction factor to "convert" an et to sea level? I suspect that it would be a correction of X%/1000ft or some such expression.

for 2600 ft muti et by .9692, speed by 1.0325. Your 14.10 would be a 13.66 @ sea level.:cool

also 100lbs is a tenth and 1 mph +/-

Thanks everyone....its been a while since I last raced my C5....but I am looking forward to it soon again-after winter. Being that my C5 is my first manual car, I dont have much experience racing it...I think if i shift faster and better, I can probably bring my time down even more.

My first trip will be this Thursday night , I will post times soon .

I went to Desoto Dragway Thursday night , it was 60 degrees and no wind . My first run was 13.08 @106 , water temp was @208 , 2nd run 13.14@103 3rd run 13.1@105 after that the temp was around 218 and times where slowing down , I tried to let it cool but the race line was long and by the time it was my turn the temp was @ 225 , 13.2's @ 102 was my last three runs . My Best 60' time was 1.94 and the slowest was 2.008 , 1/8 e.t. was 8.46 @ 85 mph . My only improvement to the car is vararam .
I am very happy with my trip , I am very impress with the 60' time and the 1/4 e.t's . It was great beating other cars , Z28 with slicks , 60's musle cars with open headers and imports with super chargers and NOS . I ran with the stock run flats and can not believe how well they hooked up , just alittle chatter squeal and gone , churped second ans squaded hard into third . I warmed upped the tires by spinning in the on the thin layer of water after the water pit let the break go until they hooked , no smoke or excessive tire melting needed , just to lightly heat up and clean off sand and water .
I used the G-Tech to compare , it read 2 mph faster and 3 tenths slower everytime , I would consider that acurate and good enough as a tuning tool instead of driving to the track everytime you make an improvement . My 0-60 mph times where 4.6 to 4.7 , not bad . the same as on the street here at home .
Thanks ,
Joe

Joe you are doing fine with the street tires. Not many 6 speeders can get 1.94 60' times. Your MPH is very good at 105 and it shows your car is strong and healthy and you shifting is fine too. The temps getting as high as 220+ hurt you.

Have you started thinking about modifications yet?

Most will start with a Throttle body bypass and lower temparture thermostat and either a manual fan operation to turn on the fans or a program to turn the fans on sooner.

My 99 A4 stock ran 13.50's at 104 MPH over something like 70 runs and will be slower cause the 3.15 gear over your 3.42.

My car is far from stock now as I have run as well as 11.66 @ 115

Not sure how close you are to Bradenton but there is something called the Florida Corvette Challege there (that I helped start) that is a drag racing series for just corvettes. You can get lots of help there. There next race is this coming Satruday Nov 30th.

Visit www.flacorvettechallenge.com and if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Stock 99C5 with just a donaldson Blackwing air filter the car ran consistant bests of 13.5 @ 105.5 mph..(sometimes slower)

Congratulations on going cold air induction..

I suggest that if you did the 5 minute plug in under the dash with a Diablo preditor programer or TTS Powerloader (bad service through from TTS though) you'd run 12.6-12.8 @ 109 to 111mph .

I think the 2001 and up Corvettes really benefitted from the revised cam and manifold that GM put on the cars as well so your improvements would probably be on the high end..

Congratulations on drag racing your pretty much stock C5!

REDGAR : I have an A4 with 3:15 gear , the only improvement is the vararam . I am thinking about a stall converter , need some good O2 in this matter .
Thanks ,
Joe

Racing on street radials with convertors somewhat over rated...
but would be cool for roll ons..

superyank 3500 with 1.6 Str is a nice street and occasional track convertor..as long as you throw on 3:42 rear..

JMO

Hard hitting convertors are great with drag radials but I wonder how they do grabbing for traction with street tires..

Regar..I'm sure an experienced drag racer like yourself could pull off some amazing times with street tires..and a high STR and High stall..but I'm not sure I could have pulled it off.. and probably would recommend the Superyank 3500..with 1.6 str..for most applications leaning towards street..

I drove the C5 with 3500 superyank..and 3:42 gears..it was so streetable..it could have come from the factory that way.

Not as hard hitting as some other convertors but cool all the same.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

(3.15's with Yank 3000 was a strong track performer but somewhat softer on the pedal in street applications) IMHO.

That is the kind of input I want . I will be at the Florida Corvette Challenge on Saturday .
Thanks,
Joe
