I removed #10 fuse in the fuse box to disable the skip-shift solenoid. Well, a check engine light comes on. I replaced the fuse and cleared the code, P0803 BTW, and all is normal again.

Why does a check engine light come on when the skip-shift is not emissions related and certainly won't do anything to hurt the catalyst or engine?

The check engine light is considered emission's related even though it really isn't.

There are three ways to "get rid" of skip shift

1) Learn to drive the car so you never get it. Typically the only time you do is if you short shift out of first....which is not the way to drive a manual, anyway.

2) Install one of the many "skip shift" eliminator devices.

3) Have the engine computer reprogrammed to disable the skip shift feature.
