Well maintained 1997 C-5 ,idling 1 hour or more with heater on. 40 degree weather. Burns to the ground. Any thoughts on cause?

My first suggestion would be call the fire department...Cause may be overheated Catalytic Converter. Those sucka's get hot down there.

Fire under investigation but appears to have originated under hood

HI there,
Anything is possible, however, I would suspect that something cause it, not just becuase it was idling.
I have had cars running at idle for over 6 hours straight and NEVER a problem.
Idling, the car would never get past 235, so with that in mind, there must have been something that was NOT per Corvette engineering guidlines.
Allthebest, and I am sorry for your loss, c4c5:hb
