Guest
This is what I saw at the Barrett-Jackson Auction last weekend.
A 1977 Corvette with 700 documented miles thats right 700 not 7k . It sold for 14 k !!.. I saw the new owner and he was on clound nine (I even offered to drive the car back to his home ) However the previous owner was so mad that he handed the new owner the keys and stormed off.

A madel T ford sold for 8 K (cheap). But what fetched the top bucks were american muscle cars !. I saw the most exotic cars that the world has to offer a Jaguar, a Porsche, Ferrari, (yawn) but when I see any Vette its "Holy Crap" and it has been this way for the last 40 years.
I truly beleave that the Vette ( c3 is my Fav) has the best looking lines that were ever blessed upon a car.

It would depend on the condition and the maintenance. A car that is not driven deteriorates, particulary the rubber. If the fluids weren't changed regularly or if it was not stored properly, you can get rust, condensation, etc. in the internals.

A 77 can be had all day for between $5,000 and $7,500 with low mileage, though it could easily cost you the difference + in repairs.

If properly maintained and in the condition you would expect from a car with 700 miles I would pay that for the car just for the certainty of what you got.

Is it high for a 77. Yes. Is it worth it in terms of foregone headaches, downtime, etc. IMHO, again, a yes.

It was an L 82 that had been stored in a clymite controled area had verry litle tire rot . It was profesionaly put into storage.
I was looking at the car with a friend who does Vette and cobra restorations and he was surprised that there was so litle dedgration to the rubber.

I thought that the price was a great buy. I would have liked to buy it and have it parked in my living room . But alas my wife wouldent alow that..

Must be a pretty nice Vette. Speaking of auctions, my father and I are going to go to a classic car auction in the 3rd week of feb and see the Vettes coming out of there and maybe (hopefully) drive one home.

Wish us luck! :D

Whoever was selling that Vette stored it a long time ago in the hopes it would be worth $$$ some day. NOT!

IMHO storing a car like that is a waist. I don't see the reason:confused.

I agree. C3's seem to be the favorite of vettes, at least the most well known. I mean the curves on these cars just rock. Texas lotto is at 53 million tonight. My dad asked if I could go buy him some tickets. I was tired from work so I decided to relax and go in my shark. I go to the gas station and as I walk in there is this guy standing outside and he says "g****mn thats a bad f****ng car". The cam makes it even sound better;)

I agree with you SSCAM69 I think it was a waste to store the car. Bobchad had some really good points about the problems that you can run into when you store a car improperly.
I will tell you the truth. When I was at the car auction last weekend I would walk past 100' of cars that cost at least 30 to 40 K and I saw 2 cars that were suposed to fetch 1 mil each !!!.
I would look at these cars and would think they were really nice BUT whenever I would see a C3 I would stop and Look at the car for a long time !!!.you have no idea how many pictures I have of just the rear wheel well area lol.
Page 62 ,Yes I bet the guy that stored the car is hateing life.. Stored it for all those years when he could have been enjoying it insted of locking it away.

I also agree storing a car is pretty much of a waste. It's a car...drive it!!! :D The only way I would be apprehensive to put a car on the rode is if I had a C1 or something along that lines. I would feel really bad if it ever got in an accident.

-failed to set proper Reserve...

-if the Auction-seller went to all of that trouble to thoughtfully preserve the C3 for 40-years (figure $100/mo. x 480-months = $48,000 alone (for occupying earth-space), plus the orig.-price of the car $12k, ---plus equivalent unrealized T-Bill Interest (can anyone compute a $12k/T-bill for 40yrs?)! ---a terribly loosing proposition!), one would have thought that he would have also set the Auction-reserve figure at say $35k at least; --he was probably mostly angry at himself for going to the trouble to take the car (probably trailered enclosed) to the Auction, but not establishing a decent Reserve-figure (am presuming the car was a proper color such as black or silver)! Well hopefully, the new owner will continue its thoughtful care, he will probably put it on Ebay and double his money (life just isn't fair to do good'ers)...
-Also know a guy who's lawyer-dad bought a lovely new black-on-black-leather '76-C3 (last year of the nifty "flying-butress roof"), well the then age-18 guy took the spanking-new C3 for a spin and the father not thinking his son would do such a naughty thing, -promptly reported the car "stolen", -eventually buying another just like it!! --Oh the son, -he still has the car stealthfully parked in a local friends garage where he has been paying monthly-rent, --he was to scared to tell his type-A dad he "barrowed" the car, --and now to scared to drive it!!! Told him to donate it to some Vette-museum as a tax-writeoff...
