After getting dusted by a Volvo in my daily driver :( I started looking at the Mazdaspeed Protege' w/ the Callaway Turbo system installed thorugh Mazdaspeeds program and upon further research came upon this... "Rebates $1500 Cash to Customer start: 07/01/2003 end: 09/02/2003 "

With the rebate ( and discount I can also get from the Mfr. ) I might be able to get this thing for under 17k :eek

Now if only I can convice my wife I need another car :Silly

In the meantime, maybe someone else can use this info - looks like a very well received car review

enjoy :m

I can see it now... a much larger wing on the back, chrome fender rings, lowered, illuminated washer nozzles... and 100hp worth of stickers!! :_rock

Good one Eric - a lil' Zippy pocket rocket for sure ;)
I bet Zoner's got the key to unleashing some awesome power levels from this lil' rocket :Steer

at least the "bugeye" foglights are gone - those were a bit excessive :eek
here is last yr's 2003 model (Yellow one above is 2003.5 model)

I have some advice too-- rip out that Mazda motor and put in a Chevy smallblock! :booty

Chris,

Good Luck!

I happened to bring up the Chevy SSR I have on order since Jan 2001 and is due to arrive in the Oct/Nov time frame and ended up in the dog house.

Thank God my current Dodge Ram is starting to show its age and to be fair it has been a real work-horse (or Ram :D ) and I hate the thought of putting it out to pasture. I thought that would be the angle to take... to replace the Dodge Ram with the SSR but lets just say it was not a pleasant weekend around the house.

Granted the MazdaSpeed would be kinda cool (minus stickers, wings, and glow lights) although I'm sort of spooked by their color selections. Personally, I like a bit more chassis with a vehicle, primarily because of the way I drive and because of the idiots on the South Florida roads.

Cheers!

Luigi,

I'm starting to see some SSR's on the roads here in Detroit. Both were red with black interiors and wearing Manufacturer plates. They are being "wrung out" as one guy indicated by certain members of the design and manufacturing teams. His was from the pilot pre-production build that GM does during each vehicle launch to insure all the suppliers parts fit and make the final tweaking adjustments.

Very cool truck. Hopefully GM will display one during the "Corvettes America" show at the Tech Center on August 9th.

Luigi - Thanks - I am tempted to head back to the showroom and look at what they have ;) New colors are avail for 2003.5 - Yellow, Blue , and gunmetal are all new for mid year - I am VERY partial to grays, soooo.....

(2003 colors were limited to Mica orange and black)

I am not a big fan of the wing but on the 2003.5's , they eliminated the center "support" and got rid of the huge bugeye foglamps in the lower f. bumper

What I Really wish was on the market is this... :upthumbs
