I'm thinking of putting four c5 18" rims on my c6 for track days and driving schools, Much, much cheeper for rims and tires. Has anyone tried this ? Am I over looking somthing ? I know the rims will fit because I put some on the car to check. What would be the right size tires to go with ? Thanks

I think I'll move this over to the C6 section, maybe someone over there will know.

You buy a C6 and then worry about the price of wheels & tires?

What's up with that? The price of another set of wheels & tires would cost more than just replacing tires when needed.

Sorry . . . but this just doesn't make any since . . .

He might want to run road race (ie "R" compound) tires for the track days. I am looking at doing the same thing on my new '04 Z06 for autocrossing and track days. Even a so-so R compound tire make a hoge difference over the best street tire and you can not safely run the road race tires on the street on a day to day basis since they will hydroplane very easily should you get caught in any kind of rain shower (I know a guy who sent his BMW M3 across four lanes on I35 going home from an autocross with "R" compound tires when I quick rain shower caught him by surprise). In my case I was wondering about using my spare set of 17 inch '01 Camaro SS rims, though that might compromise handling somewhat.

You may want to post this question in the autocross section, someone there might know where you can get wheels and tires to swap out.

Thanks for the input, I have lot of time to sort this out since we just got five inches of snow here in Michigan, but it is all a balancing act, rim size and with, and them the tires. Right now, I'm thinking of using the exter rims from the 2001 C-5 coupe that I had ( I have 3 rears 18x9.5, need to buy one if anyone has one ) and using Kumho Victoracer V700. Treadwear rating of 50, get them heat treated and hope for the best. I need to be able to drive to the track, even if I have to drive slow. The big draw back is the with of tires I can use on the 9.5 rim. But spring is a ways off !

hey gee3 ( and anyone else with an opinion ) I am considering Z51 on a C6 and concerned about the tires. The literature says the Z51's are optimized for dry conditions. Does this mean that they are dangerous or poor on wet roads? I like the look of the tread of the base tire for all around driving but want the Z51 option. I am thinking about asking the dealer if the car could be ordered ( somehow ) with Z51 but base tires. I could also get the Z51 and replace them with a more general purpose tire. your thoughts are appreciated. og
