I am restoring my 66 vette seat belts and they are the RFC -65 model with the push button. I can't make out the color of the backround of the button. Is it blue or black? The Chevrolet bow tie in in the middle. Thanks Jack;help

Thank you for the photos and you can see the result in the after shot attached

those buckles look terrible.
the button is black.
The center of the bowtie is blue.
The stainless should have a brushed surface in one direction.
Here's a pic of before and after restoring mine:

Thanks a lot, I have owned the car for 38 years and this is the last restoration, as you can see I drove the car a lot, over 250,000 miles and 3 restorations. This one I am doing myself, except for engine rebuild and paint.

That's how I did my 66.

The correct matching belt material in the pictures came from rear seat (largely unused) belt material found in old junk yards in vehicles from the 60s - when people just stuffed the rear seat belts under the seats.

The buckles came from the same place, usually on Olds or Buick belts, which are identical except for the button. The button can be replaced with the (Corvette only) button with the bow tie emblem.

Any good old iron frame zig zag sewing machine can sew the correct pattern in the belts with nylon (shoe repair) thread.

Have fun.

History of my car

Thanks again, one question, what color blue for the bowtie back round. I just can't remember the colors from 38 years ago. I found a shoe maker who will do the sewing and I located the right color saddle webbing for the belts. All of my car is orignal except for the starter, alternator, ect. 2 sets of seat covers, 2 sets of rugs,The belts are orignal just wore out. I bought the car from a pilot who flew Phatom F4 jets and was going to Nam. I have his wings on my glove box and just located the decal of a F4 that was on my vent window . see attached photos

John,
Great picture, I notice it is blueish, maqicv8 also posted a picture . Is the blue always the same no matter the color of the belts ? It looks like the blue on the GM parts boxes.... My belts are saddle.

Thanks again

Jack
