I am thinking of putting a big block hood on my 1967 for the 2005 driving season. My immediate concern seems to be the hinge on the driver's side rather than the passenger. There may be other issues as well. Can the passenger side set-up be converted to work? Also is there a source within Canada for one of these units? I would appreciate advice.

Paul,

The upper attaching point of the BB hood brace appears to contain a metal plate (with tapped holes) held in place by two rivets.

I don't see how you could attach the passenger side SB brace to the hood without difficulty.

You'd be better off placing the brace on the driver's side, which would require the drilling of three holes on the inner fender -- 1 for rivet; 2 for bolts.

Thanks for the pic and advice. I see the hinge and assorted hardware is available in the various catalogues for reasonable prices. A change to the driver's side is certainly an option. But if the new hood is a naked 'glass unit it may have a similar upper mount area on the passenger side where the steel plate might be placed. Do you see such an area on your hood? BTW I have a lead on a hood right here in Ontario. I am trying to find out if it is press-molded. I am not partial to hand laminated with the rough undersurface.

The original GM over-the-counter '67 service replacement BB hoods had tapping plates on both sides, but they're pretty hard to find; the aftermarket BB hoods just have the tapping plate on the left side. As Bob noted, you can go with the left side setup by adding the tapping plate on the inner fender; or, you can cut a slot in the inboard side of the right side brace in the hood inner panel and add a tapping plate to the hood and keep your passenger side support. Minor surgery required either way.

It's hard to see what that is? I won't ask yet. I am working on a press molded hood from within Canada at the moment.
