I need some help. I am trying to replace the linkage arms etc om my 1969 4 speed 350/300. When reading the instructions they all say use tool enclosed or an allen wrench or something to put into hole so all levers will be aligned when you tighten everything up.

I have looked everywhere and cannot find the hole. I have taken shifter plate off and can't find it. I have look all underneath on plates as it says to do and I cannot find a hole anywhere. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it possible there is no hole?

Any help will surely be appreciated. I am totally out of ideas and need help.

Thanks

shift shafts only move 3 positions left right and center ..center is netural ..put shafts in netural put shifter in netural instal rods. adj as needed ...

Both my 66 and 72 GM manual give dimensions on the piece that goes into the slot. Essentially, it is a piece of sheet steel roughly (very rough estimate) 1/2" wide and 1/16" thick. It goes into the slot when all of the rods are aligned. You then lengthen or shorten the connectors to allow them to connect to the posts on the transmission. This procedure is discussed in detail in my GM Service Manual.

Thanks. I do have that peice of metal but cannot see where it fits. I looked down and up when everythin was in nuetral. I cannot find it anywhere.

On The Plates

They are on the side of each shifter plate looking from the driver's side to the passenger's side just below the centerbolt that holds the shifter to the transmission. The hole is only a little bigger than 1/8" in diameter and the tool must be pushed through from the driver's side. Hope this helps, I've never seen a shifter without them.
