1970 Lt-1
I was wondering if any 1970 LT-1 Owners would be able to answer a few questions about thier radiators.
According to the NCRS judging manual the correct radiator is a copper brass construction with no expansion tank. They do not list the GM Part number however. While everything I've seen says there is no expansion tank, I have seen conflicting info on the radiator construction and the part number.

Does anyone know for sure they have the correct radiator?
Does anyone know the correct GM part number for the correct radiator?
Could anyone post an image of at least the filler neck area of a correct radiator?
What is the correct construction? 4 row Copper/Brass or Aluminum?

Thanks for any help

I Know the LT-1's only used copper/brass, no aluminum. Don't know the GM P/N's. Been too long since I had mine, sorry, it was a 72. Bought the rad from chevy dealer & I was left with the impression that the copper/brass was specific to LT-1's.

Sorry I don't remember the P/N's. :beer Tom

The LT-1's during the '70 thru '72 years did indeed use aluminum radiators when ordered with the ZR-1 option.

The correct radiator is a Harrison copper radiator with no expansion tank, unless ZR-1 as noted above. Don't know where the part number is unless someone can tell me where to look on the radiator. Here's some pics of the radiator from my former 71 (same as 70) both before and after engine detail. I know these aren't exactly what you are looking for, but I hope this helps.

Thanks

Thanks for the pics. Mine looks the same. The part number should be on a metal tab about 6 inches below the filler next on the engine side of the tank.

I asked for this info because I thought I might have the wrong radiator. I wasn't sure if the radiator I had needed an expansion tank. I was losing coolant as I drove the car. I figured out I'm not burning it, it's just coming out the overflow. Since I don't have an expansion tank, I made a test one out of an old coolant bottle. Took a drive and later found coolant in the bottle. Since I'm pretty sure I have the right radiator, I think my problem is my radiator cap. I'm going to try a 16lb cap to see if my coolant stays where it's supposed to.
