1972 ZR1

Question: How much hp would a 1972 ZR1 produce. There is a guy dow the road that claims his '72 is a 406. A 406 what, I don't know. But before I crawl all over it, I thought I'd ask you guys.

Thanks,
Rick

The '72 ZR1 package used the LT1 engine which was rated at 255 hp (net rating).

The C4 ZR1 (LT5 engine, DOHC) produced 405 hp for the 93-95 years.

Thanks Tom.
One day I'll go take a look at it. I didn't know what to think when he made his claim.
Thanks again.
Rick

Could it be he put a 406 CI small block in it? That's the only 406 that came across my mind. ;shrug

Rick,
Is that a yellow one with a aftermarket high rise hood. There was one over in Carrollwood for sale about two months ago. It had either a 406 or 402 big block.

Why in the world would someone do that to a ZR1???? There were only 20 of those produced in '72. That is one car that you would want to keep original.

No, not in Tampa. It's in Riverview. You can see it along I-75 s. of the Alafia river. I was asking around about it, and found out that the owner works for the same company I do. I'm not out to find ANOTHER RARE corvette.
Thanks,
Rick

Doubt if it's a real '72 ZR-1; only 20 were built, and it was a special-order package for road-racing. It used the standard 350/255hp LT-1 engine, plus M22 4-speed, transistor ignition, special brakes, springs, shocks, front and rear stabilizer bars, special aluminum radiator, and no fan shroud, and you couldn't get power windows, rear defogger, air conditioning, power steering, wheel covers, or a radio with it. It also cost a little over $1,000 extra (which was 20% of the base price). The claims some people make to sell their cars are amazing. :(

a69vette,what ever happened with the guy who thought he might have a 70 LS6?Anything is posible, but i highly doubt it cause ther are no documented LS6's made in 1970.....JERRY

Yeah fill us in on that one. I was thinking about that the other day. Last I remember there were some photos I think of it.

1970 LS6, Anybody heard of one?
I think that's how the thread started. Yes, I did take some pics of Darren's car. After all the interest in the thread, I thought Darren would chime in with all of the details. I quess he decide not to share with us any more information about his car. Last I talked to him, he claims he went thru all the numbers and it is a LS6. I left it at that. I beleive it's more fun to read the treads about the cars when they are written by the owners and update with new information by the same. To me reading about (or providing information) about someone elses car doesn't have the same effect. When the owner writes about his/her car, they have passion about their vechicle. Someone else (like me) looking over at someone else's car doesn't have the same knowledge or appreciation for the vechicle.
In short, I felt that Darren should have given everybody what they were looking for.
Now for this car,........I know where it is sitting, and one day, I might take a look at it. I'll let they owner tell me all he knows about the car. If he gives me something I don't know about, I ask you folks(thus the reason for the thread).
Who knows, maybe all those rare cars are here in Florida, not in a barn in Tennessee. :)
Thanks,
Rick
