Does anyone know how many 1973 Corvette convertibles came with the L82. I know that there was 4,943 convertibles made this year and 5,710 cars came with the L82 engine. Maybe where to find this information.
Thanks in advance
Larry

Yours was the only one made that way. Mine was the other one produced with the L48. That's the only two left(lol). I tried to find that info. It's a guesstimate. Did you try the blackbook?

You WISH Bruce! :chuckle

GM did not keep information on combinations of options. The number can be guessed at by simple statistical analysis but are rarely accurate.

Bruce and Mike are referring to a guess-timate called EXTRAPOLATION which is discussed in Mike Antonick's Corvette Black Book. It's a fun way to figure how many Vettes were produced with certain options... but it's just that - a guess-timate aka as a SWAG.;)

Bear with me and we'll look at some raw data.
From the CAC | Tech Center | Model Center
and CAC |Tech Center | Model Center | MY 1973 Production

MY 1973 total production = 30,464
Convertible production = 4,943 or 16% of total (16.2257 % rounded off)
L82 engine = 5,710 (times 16% or .16 )
Estimated 913 convertibles with the L82 engine.

If we had the production numbers for exterior colors, we could narrow it down more. Unfortunately, that info isn't available.

Hope this helps.
And BTW - welcome to the Corvette Action Center!!

I think straight extrapolation does more harm than good as it does not take into account any 'human' factors and trends

Some examples-
People that ordered power steering are more likely to also order power brakes, and vice versa. People who ordered the deluxe interior are more likely to have also ordered AC, PS and PB. People who ordered AC, PS and PB are also more likely to have ordered stereo AM/FM over mono AM/FM.

The simple multiplication of one option times another does not take the above into consideration.

To assume that people who ordered L82 were proportionally split irrespective of body style might throw the numbers way off. I ran the numbers on my car and statistically it is far less than one of one. :D

My gut says there's a much higher number of L82 verts running around.

As you can see, Larry, it's all a guess. And Vettehead Mikey's second post is a great explanation of why that's the case. :thumb

THANKS that will be close enough for me. I just bought my 73 and just wondered. Seems like a bunch of good people on this site, I hope someday to help someone else.

Yours is one of one. It's your one.

I've had mine for 35 years and it always puts a smile on my face when I drive it.

Enjoy.
