Does anyone know if the 1975 L48's came with a cast or forged crankshaft? I'm gonna be replacing the majority of my engine, if the crank is cast I'm planning on replacing it with a scat forged crank, if it's forged I was thinking about having it tested for cracks, cleaned up and just leaving it alone.

Almost a certainty it's cast ... and there's not a darn thing lacking with it unless you double the original HP ... so keep the cast if it's in good shape. If you put a scat forged crank in you will need to have the motor balanced ... another $125-$250. I've personally seen 375HP sbc asphalt circle tracker go two whole seasons on a cast crank ... still good for a third season ... no problem. Kinda like a drag race twice per short lap ... asphalt circle track is VERY hard on cranks.

Stock horsepower was only 165. =/
I'm gonna aim for about 360-420 with my new engine.
So I guess that means 500 bucks for a crank. =/

71 L48 motors use same crank & they make 270HP ... double that ... spend the $500 elsewhere.
