I am contemplating disconnecting the factory A/C on my 1977 as someone told me it is robbing power and I never use it. Can anyone tell me if this will create any problems down the road and will it really add to the performance of the car? Thanks.

Why would you want to disconnect it? In Texas, it can get up to 103-105 F. It's true that all these components take out the power from your engine, but we're talking about Power Steering Pump, Power Brakes, Headlights, AIR Pump, Exhaust System, etc. Are you listening to someone who doesn't care what you do to your car because it's not their car? Be very careful if you remove anything off your car; I'm restoring a 1977 Corvette, and my major problems are the missing parts that an uncaring stupid previous owner removed and discarded simply because he wanted to go just a little bit faster.

good advice! thought by just taking off belt it might add a bit of HP. Thanks!

i have to agree with Bizzy, i have one of those cars that many things are missing. it was misused and abused and definately wet when put away!

I agree with bobchad & bizzy & robin ... keep the ac in place, gassed up and use it occasionally ... otherwise it will die an expensive death.
