can someone confirm that there is actually a 1978 corvette SHOP MANUAL (not the 1978 chevrolet SERVICE manual that covers all the chevrolet passenger vehicles for that year) i have looked at most of the usual places and can't find a manual labled as a SHOP manual (i do know that such a manual exists for the 79 model year). i have the service manual and it fails to cover things like the power window system or the power door lock system in any detail (in fact it never really references them at all).

can someone help me out with this info??

:w Steve,

Here is a 1978 Shop Manual on Ebay ;)

Edit: I guess it say "Service Manual" but it sure looks like my GM Shop Manual for my 1981 ;shrug

you've just discovered my problem it is a chassis service manual ( i have 2 copies of that manual) and it covers all the 78 chevrolet passenger cars from nova to corvette. it isn't a shop manual in the true sense as it fails to cover and describe a lot of the basic power options other than the cruise control system and is very generic in nature (in fact it pretty much sucks as a reference document, lol). there isn't even a section on the power windows. it's pretty worthless in trying to rebuilt a bubba-ized 78 unfortunately. as i stated, i know there is a manual for the 79 model year that looks pretty much the same (red with the white year bar down the side), but it is titled as a SHOP manual and has great sections dealing with most of the power "options".

still trying to figure out if there even is a true "shop" manual for the 1978 model year corvette

thanks though

No. Pick up the 79 manual. The only difference I see between 78 and 79 is the fuse panel. Other info is pretty much the same. Nice electrical section, too. Not much need for the seperate wiring guides. You can always double check basic things with the 78 manual you have if needed. Mike

thanks. thats pretty much what i figured i had to do. i did discover that in 78 there was a fisher body manual referenced in the "service manual". i believe at least to some degree it provided more descriptive info and diagrams into some of the parts like power windows and locks, etc.in the door secrion. it's pretty cheap, so i guess i'll pick one of them up also.

thanks again for the help.

steve
