1979/80 Corvette

I have what might be an odd question. I've had a 1980 Corvette for 9 years. A few years ago, it was pointed out that the front-end clip is from a 1979 Corvette. I have been trying to research it to see if I can find where the clip was changed. Yesterday at a car show a guy suggested that my Vette was probably manufactured at the end of the 1979 year and the clip was used from 1979 on my 1980.
Does anyone know if this is even possible? Any suggestions on where to research this possibility would be helpful. Thanks.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but no 1980 Corvette came with a 79 front clip from the factory.
