This is my first post and i tried looking for a post on this and couldnt find any, dont blast me plz :crazy

Question: how do i take off the rear window molding * top bottom and sides*. The owner of my vette before me painted the door moldings, and all the window moldings black to accent the red paint job, he did a lousy job i might add. anyways, im currently in the process of removing the black paint with Jasco. Ive removed the paint from the front window moldings and door moldings but i dont want to screw the paint up on the rear window molding. *ive already tried taping it off and using paint thinner, no luck too risky* I CANT FIND THE F@#$ING CLIPS TO TAKE THE MOLDING OFF! if anyone could aid me in taking off the clips that hold the rear window molding to a 1979 vette off, it would be greatly appreciated!

I would also like to know how.
There has to be a special tool available?

Welcome Evil Grim!

Welcome to Corvette Action Center. I used to live North of you in Arbuckle. (very tiny town) Little chance of being blasted at this site, and someone will be along shortly to answer your question.

awsome. i just got my vette like a year and a half ago and i just added some P.I. stuff from Amsoil and it cleaned my whole system out of carbon and crap. it runs great now but i want the exterior to be just as good, so everyones help and advice is a great help and i thank you all in advance. :pat

welcome to CAC
maybe someone will see this and answer your question, I have a 76 with a 72 removable window so I don't have a clue:confused

Any auto parts store will have a windshield molding clip removal tool for about five bucks - you slide it under the molding from the glass side and disengage the clips; the Shop Manual or the Assembly Manual will show you where they are.

1979 Read Window Molding

I also have a 1979 and the paint had been removed from the rear molding when I bought it. The black paint is correct for the 1979 model but the molding was bright on the 1978s. I guess it depends on whether you want "correct" or "preferred". Good luck with the removal of the molding. It isn't too hard with the correct tool and manual instructions.
