1984-Is this serious?

I am still looking to buy one and I came upon this vette-I will test drive her tomorrow. The seller told me to check the car which was parked on his drive way. He will be back home tomorrow. The car was unlocked and I took pictures. From the picture can you tell me (see red outline) if this is serious? It is glued. What is this part for?
Thanks in advance.

Cosmetic.
Is the air duct housing for the A/c evaporator

vetteoz is correct.
It is part of the duct work for the heating/air system and it holds the ac evaporator core.

Looks like someone put RTV around the edge to improve the seal.
That will help keep hot air from the engine compartment from entering the cab.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. However, it means the owner likes to use silicone, so I would look for other things that may be glued.

The engine compartment is actually very clean from what I can see in the picture.

Got any more pics?
What does the rest of the car look like?
What is he asking for it?
1984 corvettes are not that rare and not that desirable due to the crossfire(when the work, the are great. keeping them working is not easy).

That housing is made to be cut on some late '90's GM vehicles, but on an '84?

They're supposed to be cut so that they can be re-sealed. Looks sloppy. Look close and see if it has double raised lines with 'Cut here for service' writing...

Tires look okay - no indication of uneven wear. Any fresh grease on the A-arm grease fitting? (can't see it) Spark plug wire holder is intact - that's a good thing.

Im guessing this is going to be a weekend toy... Here are some expensive things that I can think of right now, which you should check (besides the obvious like engine and tranny):

Front and rear leaf spring- check for cracks and such

Exhaust- check for cracks and holes and rust, rust on a Vette is not a good thing

A/C- make sure it works and check all the different settings

Dash- to rebuild the lcd's can get expensive make sure they work with the headlights and such

Lights- check to see if the headlights go up and check fog lights, turn signals, ect...

Tires- make sure they have enough tread on them (look at this for reference)eBay Guides - Measuring Tire Tread Depth with a Coin
Tires can get real expensive $800 for four and over $1000 depending on ehat you get...

Interior- stuff like seats will set you back close to $800 so check them, the carpets are pretty expensive too. Door pannels, cracks in windshield, etc...

Pay attention to how he takes care of the car when he shows it you you because that is a good indication of how much he babied it... Look at the overall condition of the car (remember it has 114k miles) and that will give you an indication of if the car was abused...The black front spoiler is another indicator of how the car was driven... If the spoiler is cracked bad it could mean that he was not a careful driver (or his driveway has a steep ramp/curb)...

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head... Hope it helps!:coolGood Luck!!!

Thank you very much for your input. Everything depends upon the final price and drive train's condition.
