I read an article the other day that waxing is bad for a Corvette. If waxing is bad then what should I use to shine it? What is anyone or everyone else using? Please advise. This is my first Vette and I need and will utilize any and all advice from you guys.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark!

You'll get lots of different opinions around here, but as for myself... I use Zaino products on my C5. I've also seen members praise Meguirs (sp) and some of the new Turtle Wax products. If you'd like to read up on the subject, there is a lot of good info in the Care and Detailing forum. http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=12

And welcome to the CAC!

If waxing is bad for a vette then there are a lot of owners on this forum that are in trouble. The Kind of wax you use may be important.
Welcome to the site, you will find plenty of VERY good help here.I feel it is the best corvette site on the net. Someone will soon jump in with some suggestions.

Ditto on Zaino - see for yourself.

Check out 5starshine.com It's an unbelievable paint protectant (not a wax) that lasts 5 years. The Navy uses it on their destroyers to protect their antenna masts from constant sea spray. I've waxed my Rolls-Royce, Mercedes, Jaguar and Corvette with it. Stunning beyond description....this stuff really works!

I've been using Meguiars NXT - and I'm happy with the results

And if waxing is bad for it - I've been doing it major harm weekly !

Welcome to CAC! I think you will find we all like to wax our Vettes. I also am a NXT fan. I think it does a great job on dark colors. I polish about once a year. wax maybe 2-3 times a year. Its inside most of the time, so it doesnt see a lot of harsh weather.

Where did you read that? A Vette isn't any different than any other clearcoat car. The whole point of wax is to block UV which can harm the basecoat. Clear DOES have a UV blocker, but waxing helps even more. In addition, wax will help protect the clear from crap sticking to it, like bugs and tar.

I am also a big fan of the NXT. I did my 64 last Friday and did a show on Saturday and everyone commented that it is the best it has ever looked.

With car care, the more you read the more you get confused.

Do whats right for you & if you think you can do better then change your method.

There is no right or wrong wax or polish; Its all a matter of opinion.

My opinion changes every 6 months .
