I have a new belt that I just put on. However, unlike the old belt (when new), when I install it, I have to extend the tensioner ALL THE WAY open to get the belt on, and even then, the belt just barely squeezes on. When I start the car, the tensioner pulley whines, similar to a slipping belt sound. This is the 3rd or 4th belt I have installed and the previous ones were easy to get on and the tensioner was only half way extended when they were installed.

Are the belts, in the 1985 range +/- the same size or is there a chance I got one NOT designed for the '85

I believe they should all be the same. Sounds like you got an incorrectly marked belt, or simply the wrong size.

Thanx...I'll get another one...I am correct when I think the tensioner should not be that far extended, aren't I?

The tensioner shouldn't have to go the full way when installing the belt; halfway or so is what I've always experienced. The tensioner is marked to keep you aware of it's tension, and when it needs to be replaced, but you'll usually hear it or feel it before then. ;)

Thanx...I'l check the markings!
