Having just purchased 1985 Vette with cruse control, which works, I now find that the speedometer does not work and probably hasen't for some time, but the odometer, tack and fuel information still works.
Some of the numbers and speed indicator are visable, but the overall appearance of the cluster is like water or oil has gotten in the instrument. Does anyone out there know what is the problem, will the instrument be repairable and where, basically what should I do. Doc

It sounds like you may have what is called solar burn. I had that happen with my '84. It was too costly to get it fixed so I went ahead and bought a good used unit. The best thing for you to do is to look for a good used one. The repairs at Ecklers is like $1400 or someinthing like that. only take this advice if the cluster does not display numbers or they are very faint and hard to read or the speedolines look like they are all melted together and there is no space between the lines.

1985 Instrument Cluster

Thanks for the reply, Solar Burn, looks just like that. I will probably take your advise and look for a good used one, let me know if you run into any. Doc
