1986 Clutch problem after driving 10 minutes

I have a 1986 manual clutch corvette with only 12k miles on it. Yes, it has been kept in the garage and babied! When I take it out for its monthly spin, it shifts fine but then after about 10 minutes of driving, it becomes very difficult to shift into gear, almost impossible to get into reverse...acts like the clutch is out of adjustment suddenly. A friend told me it may have something to do with the springs on the clutch plate just being tired and when the clutch expands from use, it prevents you from shifting properly. Does this make sense to anybody?
Any possible ideas or help on what the problem might be would be appreciated.

That's one of the problems when one doesn't put many miles on the vehicle. They must be excercised regularly to prevent both leaks as well as things drying out. Mechanisms such as clutches and brakes should be regularly put to use. Even a thin layer of rust can render them inoperable in time.

Use your car more often.
