1986 Power Locks

I'm a new corvette owner for about 3 weeks now and neither of my power locks work. Is there a starting place or common problem I can check before I take it to a repair shop?

Thanks for the response. I don't have a owners manual and there wasn't anything marked on the fuses for the doors, but I checked the Haynes book and it said that it was the circuit breaker WDO which I checked and it was fine.

I think in the older C4's there are groupings attached to the fuses, but it wouldn't hurt to just run through all the ones in the passenger door area.... I think they are labeled too... above that, you need the help of Vigman... he is the C4 electronics mastermind of CAC:)

Great, I'll try to go through the fuse panel and double check everything there first and then try the Vigman if I don't come up with anything. Thanks for all your help, this site and forum has been all too helpful in trying to figure things out! Thanks again.

The same fuse (on the '84, that is) operates the radio and interior lights. If it's not the fuse, the lock/unlock switches are prone to fail. It could be that both failed and the owner just let them go. Next: the switches do not operate the door locks. They operate a relay that operates the locks. The relay is behind the panel just above the radio, and easily accessible. A failed relay or failed (plug in) connection at the relay could be the problem.

I would expose the relay and jumper 12v to the activator wire (black, on an '84). If the doors lock, the door switches may well be the problem. If they don't lock, I would pull the relay from it's connector and visually inspect the connection. It should be shiny brass colored. (Maybe copper. Okay, I'm color blind and can't differentiate.) If it is, I would suspect the relay itself, but before I go buy one, I would test it on the workbench.

Good luck.
