Proud poppa to a beautiful 1988 Callaway Corvette
Hey guys,

Thought some of you might like to have a look at this car. It has some problems as admitted by the owner, but it is Charcoal Metallic and most importantly, it has a set of Corvette challenge series dymags with 9.5s up front and 11s out back. Wheels could use to be refinished and the car needs a little work, but one could probably turn this one for a profit if they were handy with a wrench and have an extra set of Dymags to boot. Enjoy!

P.S. My car could use some 315s for the rear, but alas, the offset is wrong:cry

Justin, this is true - unless you changed out the rear suspension components to the 1987/older design, the offset would be wrong.

I know someone who did this on a 1991 and the 11's tucked perfectly! The cost however, was over a grand - maybe closer to 2g's for this, plus wheels.

Your idea about buying the car, swapping wheels and keeping the Dymags was done before here - EricVonHa "flipped" an 85 Corvette buying the car in VA, taking it home and then swapping out the Dymags to his Callaway :cool

The car ended up selling back to a guy in VA - for a handsome profit from what I understand :cool

Looks like the car is about 150 miles from Bowling Green if anyone were going there. Did they ever make the 11" Challenge wheels in a GS offset? I guess they wouldn't look any worse than they do on that guys car, though.

*** wonders what that black car would look like with 5-spokes instead ***

In one picture, the close-up of the wheel, it looks like either it has a wheel weight on the lip, or there's like a chunk out of the lip.

It looks like someone's chance to become *89x4*! ;)

Is there something fishy with the rear wheels, or is it just me?

As I look at the images, the right side rear has a large offset, but the left looks different. The shot from the rear seems to mask the problem...I keep looking at it and it just looks goofy...mike

I was hoping someone on the forum could do the same again. I considered doing it, but I don't have the means to really dig in and do what needs to be done to put the car where I would want it to be when sold.

As for swapping out suspension components to the 1987 and earlier spec, I will agree that it seems less than cost effective. Maybe I need to give up on the hope to find 11" Dymags for the rear and look into a nice set of CCWs in the correct offset.
