Hi, I'm new to this forum and need a little help. Both headlights won't stay in the up position (1990). They both rise and then sink back down to the closed position. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

If u look down a few threads there is a thread about an 84 with headlight issues there are some great links for replaceing the gears if that's the problem. Idk if that is your problem though. Did they just start doing this and did they start doing it at the same time?

1990 has the white bushes, not the gear problem. Much cheaper to replace, as you can use a length of the material from Home Depot (from memory, costing just pennies),and cut to suit, or Ford window winder motor, bushes from Autozone, also cheap.....Roger.

Thanks for responding, They were like this when I bought it. Seller thought the motors needed replaced but since they worked to raise the HL I thought it might be something less costly. I don't think it related but the horn and radio aren't working either

Thanks everybody, It appears to be unanimous that bushings or the gear inside the motor unit is causing the problem. I'm away from the car right now but when I get back I'll do what everybody has suggested. Thanks again

They make a metal replacement gear
As already noted ,
it is almost always the 3 bushings (that disintegrate under load as shown in the pic ) at fault on the late model motors
Early style motor strip the gears so a metal gear is an advised replacement on those
