My 1990 tends to run really hot esp in the summer anyone have any idea what might be the problem?

check for debris in front of the radiator.

I would go even further: pull the radiator & clean out the fins with a regular old garden hose, just spray them good. While you're at it, clean out the fan shroud, there will probably be lots of junk in there. Also, with the radiator out, you can spray the a/c condenser fins as well. These three things will dramatically lower your temps.
