1992 AC delay after start up

I have a Torch Red 1992 Coupe with 58,000 miles and AT. Whenever I start the car back up after parking outside in the heat, the AC takes several miles/minutes to start cooling again. I recently had the AC system retrofitted and charged with the 134 freon and it is very cold when it finally kicks in. The period of time immediately after I start the car until it starts cooling is very unpleasant in 90 degree heat. Is this a trait of all Vettes of this year or am I experiencing a problem with my AC system? Thanks

Did you add the fan due to an AC problem? I would be very happy with one or two minutes until it gets cold. I am talking about 6 or 7 minutes and maybe 4 or 5 miles of hot air if it is in town. Last year at Funfest we were out of the parking field and to the first stop light in traffic before it kicked in.

I plan to take it back to the shop where the retrofit was done, but thought I would check to see if anyone else has had a problem with their AC being slow to cool upon restart. I had this issue last year when the AC was cooling okay. It isn't any better now so I am not sure the retrofit / pressure is the cause... but if it was low last year, maybe it is low now causing the same issue. Thanks for your reply.

Roll down your windows for about 3-4 minutes. Let the hot air out first. Then after the hot air is gone or as much as SHE CAN get out, roll them back up.
Max-Air is cutting off the outside air supply and recirculating the inside air only. Reg-air allows some outside air to get in.
That's why it takes longer to cool down. All the inside air is recirculating which is REAL hot. Like taking 160 degree water and freezing it versus 70 degree water.
It take longer to freeze 160 degree water. I know I will catch H_ _ _ for this one.. loll:D

Nope don't help. I have to lower the windows to stand to drive the car anyway when the AC is pumping out hot air. I am not talking about it taking time to get the car cooled down, I am talking about the AC not blowing cool air when it first starts up and for several minutes/miles therafter. I have two other GM vehicles and within 60 seconds after start up the air is cool even though it obviously takes several minutes to cool the interior to a comfortable level. Thanks for the reply though.

I agree with gm.......134a should be weighed in and at 80%(chime in GM if I'm off on this %) of the r-12 charge. If he simply charged it back based on the decal then it's overcharged.
