I have a vacuum line that comes off the AIR system (below the ASR cover) and heads toward the back of the alternator. It is a hard plastic hose and the end looks broken, but I don't see anything it would attach to. Does anyone know where it should attach?

Here is where it connects to the AIR:

Here is the broken end:

The FSM mentions the vacuum line but there is no diagram of where the line is routed. The AIR system is only active until the engine goes into closed loop, which is probably why I haven't noticed any issues. I'm more concerned that I may have a vacuum leak where it is supposed to connect to the vacuum source.

Thanks.

I'm sure you have found the answer by now but if you haven't. That line runs from the ASR fitting under the fuel rail to a "T" fitting in the center of the manifold.

Here is what to do.....

Pull off the driver's side fuel rail cover and you will see the same hard plastic line. Depending on where the line broke you will be able to add some new vacuum line to replace the broken piece.

That line holds vacuum from your intake. It come out of your intake and goes to a "T," Right goes to the EGR valve, left goes to the ASR unit in your picture. That hard plastic line wraps around the left side of the driver's side valve cover and bends at certain points to the ASR unit in your picture.

I myself broke the line when I tried to pull off the elbow, and I just put in another elbow and stretched the line a bit, worked fine and held a vacuum.

Once repaired.......

Take the "T" off from the intake, put a hand held vacuum pump on the ASR line in question (don't test the EGR side) and put some Hg of vacuum on the line, the ASR vacuum line will be able to hold the vacuum if there are no leaks. If the vacuum goes down real quick, guess what, you have a leak still. A leak on that line will affect the EGR valve, and its ability to work correctly.
