Now that I have successfully managed to remove the door panel without breaking anything, I was quickly able to see that the plastic Guide/Stop mounted to the window on the front side is broken and needs to be replaced.

Question is: How can I remove the old Guide/Stop bolt and install a new guide/stop? There is very limited space to do anything, and the Factory Shop manual is referencing a tool J-22055 to aid in removal of nut.

Also, where can I pick up a new Plastic Guide/Stop assembly.

Anybody have any tricks to getting this done without taking the glass totally out?

Thanks to all in advance,

Regards,
Brian

Brian,
If you have the aluminum shield that holds the door handle off, you should be able to plug your switch back in and lower the window about six inches and you will see the nut holding the stop on. The tool that your manual is refering to holds the stud from the backside so it won't spin while you loosen the nut. Probably not necessary. Your local Chevy dealer will have to order your stop, about $13 if I remember correct. Just a suggestion, What does you outer window sweep look like. While you have everything apart it's only three pop-rivets holding it on, so now would be the time to change it if it's looking rough. :beer Later Tim

Window Stop / Guide Replacement Update

Bottom Line:

25.95 for the parts ordered through Chevy since nobody else carries the things.

45.00 for the special tool required to get the bolt out as there is no other way without the possibility of breaking the glass.

Total for repair 70.95 and about 4 hours labor and a couple weeks to wait for the parts and tools.

My advice is:
Don't screw with changing this part. Waste of time and money.

I took mine to a Glass shop and had them repair it. They made a stop from scratch with some stuff laying around. It looks and is more sturdy than that POS plastic one that GM put in. The total price was about $40.
