I recently downloaded a performance review from Stan A, from Auto performance and Test Lab. He states the LT4 will vary from 330 to 392 HP.

I recently bought a LT4 with a performance chip and 3" Flowmasters. My question is, can I tell from a block number where my lt4 rates, or are the high HP motors totally random?

There is always going to be some variation in horsepower in production engines, I doubt you can find out via a block number. Best, way...dyno it and see what you got.

Oh, and welcome to CAC, enjoy your stay, and learn some things lots of good folks here.

Totally Random - I think mine had 500 HP!

BTW - Welcome to the :CAC

I never rode in 6shooter's Vette. Judging by how beautiful he kept his car, I would say he was pushing AT LEAST 500 HP, if not more! :L

AFTER RUNNING YOUR LT4 ON THE DYNO, BE SURE TO SAVE THE :w!

Legend has it that GM underrated the LT4s so they wouldn't put out as much (or more) as the incoming 345hp LS1s. Funny thing is, GM underrated the LS1s too. It's safe to say that the factory 330hp rating is a good starting point. I personally believe they put out closer to 350hp than they do 330hp.
