Does anyone know where the temp sending unit is that operates the cooling fans? I know about the one on the water pump that operates the gauge.

The ECT sensor located on the block between plugs 6 & 8 (roughly) operates the analog gauge only.

The ECT sensor located on the water pump is monitored by the PCM for everything else.

I've replaced the one on the water pump but my fans still won't come on unless I turn the a/c on. Any suggestions?

Both fans are running?
Hi or low speed ?
It would appear your fans / relays and wiring ( or at least one setup ) are fine because turning on the A/c sends a signal to the PCM to run the fans

There are two fan speeds controlled by 3 relays

Both fans run at slow speed when the PCM grounds pin A11 which energizes Relay #1.

Both fans run at high speed when the PCM grounds pin A11 and pin A10 (All 3 relays are energized).

Both fans are running but I don't know about the speeds because I didn't know there were two speeds. Thanks for the info and diagram. I'll check it out.
