Hi all,

I'm new to the C5 board but not to CAC. I have been posting on the C3 forums for a year or so.
I just bought a 1998 C5 two weeks ago with 7,500 miles on the odometer. When I bought it the brake rotors were rusted a little from sitting in the rain for a few weeks. The brakes were real grabby when I took it home, but has since smoothed out.
It has no problem stopping except when I get below about 5 MPH, then I get a noticable pulsation until it comes to a stop. It feels like a warp of some kind, but it doesn't translate to the pedal or do it at any other speed. Is there anything I can do about this other than isolate the offending rotor and replace it?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Where do you actually feel it if not in the pedal? Is the steering wheel getting a slight pulsation?

If the brake pedal pulses it would most likely be the rotors, the steering wheel can feel jerky on stops whne the brake hoses running to the front calipers are expanding under pressure.

Congrats on the new ride!

It's not in the pedal, or the wheel. It's more like I feel like a bobble-head with whiplash. I'm not even sure it's a real problem, but it's a lot different than my C3.

Thanks, I like it a lot!

Ok, I know what you mean, like they grab and release slightly. Could be dirt on the pads and rotors, or some burnished rust on the rotors.(But just on a part of the rotor, so the pad grabs and slips as it turns) If it doesnt go away in a bunch of rides while you put on some miles, i would just have the front rotors cut and replace the pads, if it gets annoying. Try a few high speed stops. (Not panic stops)

Exactly!

I will try to get under it and look at the insides of the rotors and see if there's still a rust spot on one or more. I can't see anything on the outside. Thanks for the advice.

I had the same problem with my 98. I would have the rotors turned, should take care of your problem.

It is important to torque the lug nuts to 100ft-lbs. I have read several times on this and other sites that improper torque is a common cause of rotor distortion.
