Battery went dead due to not driving for several weeks, recharged same and then made a trip to find that the cruise control did not function, no acceleration, resume, up or down. After maybe 100 miles the cruise started to function. Later after shutting the engine off and restarting, the cruise did not work and then the Traction Control System llight came on with a message, Service Active Hndly. The question, is there a conection between the TCS and cruise control, for example will the cruise work if the TCS is in a certain position, or could I have a real cruise problem.

HI there,
I would suggest that your brake pedal switch may not be adjusted correctly.
Take a look underneath the panel where your pedals are and see if one of the switches is not completely seated. This is meaning that the plunger that contacts the pedal is slightly out.

I had a similar problem on my 99. If I place my foot underneath the brake peddle and pull up (just a tap and you might not feel any play in the pedal), then try to set the cruise. Like Paul says, the plunger is slightly out.
