I have problems down shifting from 4th to 3rd and 2nd to 1st. Up shifts are easy as can be. 4 to 3 absolutely can't be done without a double clutch, and 2 to 1 and can be done without a double clutch, but it grinds.

How terminal is this? I can live with it for if you don't think it will screw up something else or let me sitting one day

Pray for spring...............

Been a long time since I have been able to get back on here!!! anyway...

Sounds like you have some internal trans problems going on... Could be the syncronizing or AKA brass blocking rings going in the trans or a shift linkage issue or a shift fork issue.. you never can tell if a problem is going to leave you stranded or not.. just remmber it won't get any better...

Sounds like 3 things

1) Loose linkage, you need to crawl underneath and inspect things for tightness, missing bushings, everything lubed nicely.

2)( My vote here )
Syncros, drain the tranny fluid into a CLEAN metal pan ( after it's warmed up) and look how dirty is the oil, how much metal comes out .
( and note it's color bronze syncro's, light silver casing, DARK iron gears)
and how it preforms after you change oil.

3) Clutch is not FULLY dis-engaging as your shifting.. where is the pedal at when your DIS engaged.. if you have to MASH it down to the floor...you have linkage issues in the pedal.

If it's still the same after this...out she comes!

Do the clutch, pilot bushing, etc etc while your down that far...

Get this fixed ASAP!

If it's the tranny.. your just grinding more STUFF in there. Making a more costly repair.

Vig!

I agree, we got 36 inches of snow here on the east coast in the last two days!! :eek :eek

You might as well fix it now while the trans is still in one piece. Sounds to me like the sychronizers and/or slider sleeves. Sliders are made of a soft sacrificial metal, so they wear instead of the gears, about a $100 each, 4-speeds by Daryl has everything you need. Might just be worth it to rebuilt the trans now. :D
