Hey Fellow Gear Heads,

I am trying to get an accurate parts listing of everything that I would need to help my friend install a 2 1/2" Side Exhaust system on his 65' 327 Corvette Convertible (All parts from the exhaust manifold to the side pipes including mounting hdwre parts #'s). If someone could help me out with the parts breakdown from one supplier that would be great. Or, a name of a good vette tech support rep at any of the suppliers would be great. We have not had good luck with Eckler's so far.

Thanks,

Mike in Ann Arbor

if he's at all interested in performance, get the 2.5" CORE pipes from stainless works (they make them in non-stainless as well).

the Std GM design uses a 1 7/8" CORE pipe (2.5" entry pipe) and is more restrictive than factory under car exhaust....... althought it "sounds" better :-).

www.stainlessworks.com Give them a call and ask about 2.5" core side pipes

Try Long Island Corvette Supply. I have always had good luck with them, and their parts are usually faithful reproductions. I believe that there is one manufacturer reproducing the covers, so any Corvette parts house will sell the same cover. Why not buy the complete kit, which will include all the parts you will need?

Parts needed:

1. Sidepipes/mufflers.
2. Covers
3. Sidepipe to frame attaching hardware.
4. Front and rear cover brackets with aluminum rivets.
5. Front and rear bracket attaching hardware.
6. Cover to rocker attaching hardware.
7. Rocker trim moulding.
7a. Rocker moulding end screws.
8. Rocker trim retainers.
9. Sintered metallic donut seals for exhaust manifolds.
10. End sleeves/strenghtheners for manifold ends of pipes.
11. Stainless attaching hardware -pipes to exhaust manifolds (studs, nuts, washers).

66427-450------ 2 1/2" Core Pipes?????!!!

I am not sure I understand your meaning. My sidepipes are 2 1/2" O.D. from end to end. Is there another pipe INSIDE the outer pipe? Since these are CHAMBERED pipes, then are you referring to the chambered areas as those being 1 7/8" I.D.?
I don't think that a CHAMBERED (as originally designed) system is available with 2 1/2" diameter straight thru. I have heard of a non chambered, or baffled design, which would be 2 1/2" diameter, with no external "chambering", but with internal baffles. Is this the type that you are referring to? These, of course, look entirely different, and don't deliver that sweet tone like the chambered pipes.
The jury is still out as to which type is more restrictive, but I won't believe it until I see the actual test data. In any case, I doubt that it would make any discernable difference anyway.

yup, a core pipe inside....... like i said, stainlessworks makes them with 2.5" core pipes, check it out

it has been proven on a dyno that the factory chambered pipes cost HP (over the std exh. system). that goes for the vette side pipes as well as Z-28 under-car chambered systems.

lol........... check it out my friend :-) "The truth is out there"

66427-450 is correct; I've done the A-to-B comparison of the Z/28 under-car factory chambered-vs-factory stock duals system on the same car, same day, on a chassis dyno, and it cost 25-30hp with the chambered system. Similar situation exists for the Corvette factory sidepipes (1-7/8" inner pipe). Sidepipes were a marketing invention, not an engineering-inspired performance improvement (but people love the look and the sound, and the beanies loved the option profit).
