hello all.
does anyone know the most inexpensive place i could buy a two row aluminum radiator for my 88? ive tryed watter wetter and have heard about all the fan, computer, and themostat mods but no one has said anything about upgrading from the single row factory radiator to a two row.i think this may be a great avenue to explore but have not heard it mentioned .any thoughts on this would be aprieciated before i purchase one.

thanks for reading.....tom

I've got a stock heavy-duty radiator from an 84 (belongs to a guy on the forum) that I'm trying to sell. It's the same as RPO V01 which was also part of the Z51 package. Pretty sure it'll fit an 88; it fits 84-87 definitely. PM me if you want more info.

Bite the bullet and get a DeWitt radiator, it's all aluminum 4 row and it's ths last radiator you will buy!

The so-called "heavy duty" stock radiator is only a single-row aluminum tube unit with plastic tanks. Pretty lame. Dewitts is the only place I know of that sells a "direct fit" two-row all aluminum unit. I put one in my 84 recently and it did make a big difference. I also have a Robert Shaw thermostat to install to see if that makes any difference.

Really? I thought it was two-row. It's certainly got more tubes... On a budget, though, it's a decent upgrade. DeWitts are $500 a pop, plus shipping.

How about Be Cool? Are they as good as advertised? I know they ask $500 for them as well... :cry

My 90 radiator has a single core. The tubes are about 3/4 in wide, is that the way they all are ? If you get a dual core are they both 3/4 in wide ?

When my stock radiator blew one of the seams at the plastic tank I replaced it with a HD aftermarket. I've always believed in having the best radiator you can afford ... so I got this one from Eckler's :W for like $650. It took almost a week to get here but when it came it was directly from the manufacturer ... Howe Racing Radiators. I've used their stuff before in race cars so I was relieved and impressed at the same time. This thing was well made all aluminum tanks, 3 (yes three) rows of 3/4" tubing and brazed fins (not epoxied.) The install was pretty much R&R. I had to trim the rubber mounts some. Also I had to trim some of the fan shroud fiberglass piece (the section the electric fans attach to) the thickness of the radiator wouldn't allow the mounting holes to line up so I had to take about 1/2" off of the edges and center. I also removed some of the material near the hose inlet, outlet and where the drain cock goes (clearanced for the ears to rotate)

As far as cooling I run right around 160 all the time. I've got a 160 stat also. Never see temps up around 200 like before.

thanks for all your replys they have been very helpfull.now id like some sugestions on what to do next.heres the problem, when the car is warm its letting fluid into the overflow tank but when its cold its not sucking it back in.i know there was a small leak in the radiator and i added some sealant wich cured it ,however i believe while its not leaking out it is leaking inward so that there is not enough vacume to pull the coolant back in from the overflow tank.i have bled it several times but air still gets in so im pretty sure this is the problem.i even replaced the cap.when i first bleed it and run it it does fine never going over 205 degrees, but after driving it a second time it runs hotter and the water in the overflow tank is cold as if it not been inhaled or expeld.now the next question i'd like some replys on is this.allthough id like to get the dewitts radiator it out of my price range so here are my choices... 1-an original aluminum 1 row oem stock radiator $110. 2-a 2 row all copper radiator also $110. or a 3 row all copper radiator $180 ...any suggestions on witch one would give the best cooling performance ?...thank all of you for your replys, p.s. i like that waterless cooling thinggy but its a little to advanced for my cheap beaten little old daily driver vett
